The Ministry of the Solicitor General facility includes a 100 bed Secure Treatment Unit (STU) to service the needs of incarcerated offenders with mental illness; and the STU has been designated a Schedule 1 facility under the Mental Health Act by the Minister of Health and Long Term Care.
 
Duties:
  • Transcribes medical, clinical, reports, letters using hand written material or from computer software dictation system
  • Preparation of Mental Health Act forms at the direction of the Psychiatrist.
  • Requesting and/or releasing of correspondence in accordance with established procedures and practices.
  • Provide administrative, secretarial or clerical back-up services to other members of the clinical team including providing reception, typing and filing services.
  • Provide secretarial support to clinical team meetings by recording and producing team minutes as required
  • To work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
  • To ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal’s Harassment Free policy. 
 Requirements:
  • Successful completion of an approved Medical Secretarial Education Program.
  • Keyboarding (50 WPM) and dicta typing skills.
  • Computer skills using Word Perfect, Word, Quattro Pro, Excel, E-mail and Internet.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and requirements of the Mental Health Act and the Ontario Public Hospital Act related to clinical records.
  • Good organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Recent CPIC (within 6 Months) including,  vulnerable sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression.  Bilingual (French/English) is preferred.

Salary Range: 31.45 to  34.48 per hour
