Summary of Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Vice President of Research and with collaborative oversight from the Scientific Director, the Research & Evaluation Liaison for Cluster #X plays a pivotal role in advising and supporting the Executive Director and Medical Division Chief in developing and implementing integrated research and evaluation initiatives.
The Research & Evaluation Liaison serves as a crucial bridge between clinical practice and research initiatives within our mental health organization and research institute. This role involves collaborating closely with executive leadership to design, implement, and evaluate integrated research programs that prioritize client-centered care and enhance the quality of mental health services for diverse populations.
In partnership with the dyad, the Liaison will establish clear research and evaluation objectives, alongside key performance indicators, to ensure alignment with regional programs, services, and stakeholder needs. This role is central to providing academic and scientific leadership within the cluster, driving growth, enhancing quality, fostering inter-professional collaboration, and setting high standards for research, program evaluation, and measurement-based care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Research Development: Develop and advance an innovative research agenda aligned with The Royal’s Strategic Research Plan, contributing to the organization's mission.
- Training Future Leaders: Mentor and train the next generation of clinical scientists, fostering a culture of research excellence.
- Clinical Integration: Alternatively, the Liaison may also serve as a clinician, ensuring the integration of research with clinical practice.
- Change Management Leadership: Lead change management initiatives to improve research processes and clinical outcomes, ensuring effective implementation and sustainability of new practices within multidisciplinary teams. Data platforms such as the Cardio-Neuro-Mind Data Platform which is locally administered by partner staff
Accountability 1: Strategy
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Medical Division Chief to define and align research and evaluation objectives with organizational goals and regional needs.
- In partnership with the ED and MDC, provides guidance in the development of long and short-term strategic plans for the cluster that foster an environment of quality patient/client care, research and evaluation, and training.
- Advises on the development of cluster goals and objectives that are in line with corporate goals as outlined in The Royal’s Strategy and The Royal’s strategic research plan.
- Identifies emerging trends and areas of need in mental health to guide research focus and funding opportunities.
- Facilitates and monitors evaluation of research programs for the cluster
- Ensures integration of clinical research within clinical practice
- Fosters interdisciplinary research and integration of research into care.
- Encourages client and family involvement in research.
- Works collaboratively with the research portfolio to identify, develop and implement research projects.
- Fosters the implementation of the strategic plan and corresponding metrics.
Accountability 2: Change Management
- Participates in change management initiatives through knowledge and research integration for the cluster that support organizational goals and ensure smooth transitions.
- Leads teams in assessing change impacts, identifying challenges, and facilitating clear communication
- Evaluates the success of change initiatives, using feedback and data to improve strategies and engage stakeholders.
Accountability 3: Training Mentorship & Collaboration
- Supports knowledge mobilization within and beyond The Royal.
- In partnership with VP Research and Scientific Director, develop and implement academic partnerships and initiatives
- Participates as appropriate in corporate teams, working groups or committees.
- Responsible for input to the policy/practice and procedure development and documentation related to different clusters.
- Collaborate with the Data and Analytics team and the Quality Improvement department at The Royal to integrate data-driven insights into quality enhancement initiatives, ensuring alignment between program evaluation and organizational goals.
- Mentor and train the next generation of clinical scientists and researchers, fostering a culture of inquiry and professional growth.
- Facilitates sessions to enhance research skills and knowledge across the organization.
- Foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote research initiatives and gather insights for program enhancement.
Accountability 4: Client-Centered Research and Evaluation Delivery
- Implement and oversee integrated, client-centered evaluation processes that measure the effectiveness and impact of programs and services.
- Fosters an environment of research integration, including inter-professional research and evaluation that continually improve the patient/client outcomes and experience.
- Offer guidance on research methodologies and evaluation frameworks to support evidence-based practices.
- Advise interdisciplinary teams in the development of innovative research projects, promoting collaboration among various clinical and academic stakeholders.
- Plans and promotes research in patient care, services, and programs within The Royal and at the systems-level.
- Develop, implement, and monitor academic and scientific agendas aligned with clinical programming, in partnership with the Executive Director and Medical Division Chief.
- Facilitates the operations of the clinical services/scientific agendas for discipline areas within the cluster.
- Ensures integration of evaluation, research and clinical practice.
- Counsel on strategies to ensure efficient, effective and collaborative delivery of interdisciplinary services and enhancing access to patient/client care services through research initiatives.
Accountability 5: Compliance and Quality Standards
- Ensure that all research, inpatient, and outpatient programs evaluation activities comply with ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies.
- Maintain high standards for research integrity and data management.
- Establish key performance indicators and metrics to assess outcomes and ensure continuous quality improvement.
- Conduct regular audits and evaluations to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Provide training and resources to staff to enhance skills and promote a culture of quality excellence.
Accountability 6: Management of the Human Resources Functions and Culture
- Assists with interviewing and hiring staff within the cluster.
- Promotes education and academic initiatives both within the cluster and in collaboration with others.
- Works in a manner that complies with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
- Ensures a work environment that is conducive to the Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment, Discrimination-Free Workplace and work safety policies and practices
- Demonstrates commitment to health equity, values diversity and contributes to an inclusive working environment.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. Psychology, Psychiatry, Public Health, Social Work, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in research and evaluation within a mental health setting, including communication with community stakeholders, staff supervision, grant writing and funding acquisition, and directing and implementing research activities and program evaluations.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in leading change management initiatives is essential. This includes developing strategies to encourage adoption and reduce resistance, assessing readiness, identifying barriers, and creating a tailored solution
- Must be eligible for an appointment at a University
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate complex problems and develop effective solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment, fostering teamwork and integrating diverse perspectives to achieve shared goals.
- Demonstrated research productivity, displaying proficiency in research design, statistical analysis, and program evaluation methodologies to deliver impactful findings and support informed decision-making.
- Proven academic excellence with a strong record of accomplishment in research and academic programs, including successfully securing funding for clinical research and effectively sharing findings to enhance program impact.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience delivering public lectures and presentations at national and international conferences, and directing teams in effective communication strategies.
- Knowledge of change management principles and practices, with experience in conducting research that drives meaningful change.
- A proven ability to measure impact and achieve sustainable outcomes is essential.
- Exceptional interpersonal and mentoring skills, with a proven record of accomplishment in developing and leading effective teams.
