The OSI Clinic provides specialized mental health assessment and treatment to clients and their families referred by Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), RCMP, and the Department of National Defense (DND), who are experiencing work-related psychological stress and trauma (e.g. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder; Anxiety disorders; Depression; Chronic Pain, etc.). The services of the OSI Clinic are provided by an interdisciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse clinicians and social workers.  As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the social worker delivers mental health treatment services to Veterans and their families.
 
Duties: 
  • Provide direct support, therapeutic interventions, education and counseling to veterans, couples and family
  • Provide timely and comprehensive written bio-psycho-social assessments
  • Develop and conduct groups at the clinic and outreach locations
  • Function as an effective member of an interprofessional team
  • Liaise and consult with relevant community agencies and service providers
  • Participate in academic activities including: teaching and supervision of students, Social Work meetings, Social Work peer consultation groups and maintain all requirements for registration with OCSWSSW.
  • Maintain work load measurement and data collection (e.g. CROMIS) as required
  • Provide education with various stakeholders i.e. VAC District offices
  • Design individualized treatment plans based on assessed needs in conjunction with the interprofessional team
  • Coordinate care among internal and external service providers
  • Maintain contact with the referring VAC area counsellors, RCMP, and DND in the development of the treatment plans and referrals
  • Write comprehensive discharge reports with follow up recommendations
  • Utilize tele mental health and other distance technologies in the provision of services in outlying communities
  • Build effective collaborative working relationships with stakeholders
  • Work with the Canadian network of OSI clinics, and follow the leadership of the National Centre for Operational Stress Injuries
  • Design program evaluation and satisfaction surveys within clinic guidelines
  • Participate in research
  • Participate in Program and discipline specific committees and task groups
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal’s Harassment-Free Workplace policy.
  • Other duties as required
 
Qualifications: 
  • Master’s degree in Social Work
  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Social Worker providing services in Mental Health
  • Training in evidence-based therapies for PTSD, depression, anxiety disorders and knowledge of substance misuse required (PE, CPT, EMDR, CBT, BA, MBSR)
  • Knowledge of mental health best practices, community services, and crisis response
  • Experience working in an interprofessional service delivery model is mandatory
  • Experience with assessment of police, veterans and/or Canadian forces members with operational stress injuries including anxiety, mood, and substance use is an asset
  • Experience working with families and couples is required
  • Training in EFT is an asset
  • Experience in group work is required
  • Sensitivity to the unique needs of military/police services personnel who are experiencing service related mental health problems
  • High level of knowledge, skill and confidence in using electronic health record systems for clinical documentation and navigation.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation principles and practices
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain good working relations
  • Commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement, Best Practices and Team Work
  • Effective mentoring and clinical supervision skills to support both the academic role and the clinical practice of other team members
  • Experience providing clinical services via telemedicine or other clinical platforms
  • Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.   

Salary Range: 44.67 to  57.90 per hour
