Job Summary
The Senior Director, Maritime Operations develops and implements strategic initiatives and provides leadership, oversight, and direction to management teams responsible for maritime and stevedoring operations.

Primary Objectives
  • Develop and direct the execution of strategic goals, programs, and policies for maritime, stevedore, and marine terminal operations to ensure that Pasha Stevedoring and Terminals (PST) customers are presented best-in-class service.
  • Drive internal development and planning to continuously improve operational capabilities, scalability, and agility.
  • Oversee compliance with applicable contracts, labor agreements, and regulations.
  • Manage, lead, and develop geographically dispersed teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with executives, management teams, and related business units to develop operational goals and priorities.
  • Develop, review, and evaluate metrics and reporting to measure performance, control assets, optimize resources, and adjust operations.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage multi-year operating and capital budgets for assigned terminals.
  • Oversee the management of employees in compliance with company policy and related Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA).
  • Develop and implement processes to continuously improve safety, efficiency, service, and profitability.
  • Manage and evaluate vendor relationships, insourced and outsourced services, and related SLAs and associated KPIs.
  • Oversee the completion of cargo reports, shipping data, and vessel information and ensure appropriate communication and updates are provided to clients.
  • Evaluate, coordinate, and monitor support services for day-to-day operations of marine terminals and stevedoring activities.
  • Review, critique, and adjust stowage plans for cost effective, productive, and safe operations ensuring constant flow to the vessel.
  • Coordinate with and advise customers, shippers, stevedores, agents, and vessel staff in relation to the most efficient, cost effective, and safe methods of loading cargo.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain effective professional relationships with regulatory agencies, industry associations, and related organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements between customer, shipper, and charterer.
  • Evaluate and develop knowledge, skills, and abilities of staff and management teams to ensure alignment with service delivery requirements and effective execution of applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Lead continuous collaboration and partnerships with business units across the enterprise to ensure optimal alignment with enterprise goals and objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Operations, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience in directly-related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid state-issued driver license and acceptable driving record required
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential required
Work Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in related senior marine terminal management positions with responsibility for labor relations and budget management required
  • 6+ years of experience leading management teams required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of terminal operations and stevedore operations for break bulk, RoRo, and/or container vessels.
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations and related industry governmental regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of ILWU collective bargaining agreements, port practices, and labor relation management.
  • Strong leadership skills with the demonstrated ability to motivate others, influence decisions, and lead by example.
  • Highly effective business and executive communication skills including excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and group presentation skills.
  • Ability to identify complex problems, use logic and reasoning to review related information, develop and evaluate options, reach conclusions, and implement solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of tools.

Working Environment
This role requires work that may involve the following environmental conditions:
  • Corporate office environment
  • Vessel and terminal environment - includes moving, shifting surfaces, and active production areas including moving vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
  • Outdoor/open environments which may involve high/low temperatures, humidity and inclement weather conditions.
Travel
30% Must be able to travel independently to U.S. locations including Hawaii.

Zone 2: $210,000 - $250,000
This job is also eligible for participation in an Incentive Plan with a target payout based on eligible compensation and corporate/individual performance goal attainment.
Annual Incentive Opportunity: 25% of eligible compensation
