POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs a wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities for 2,000 employees over a multi-state area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Establish and maintain electronic employee and payroll records for 2,000 employees
  • Audit timekeeping records for compliance with established standards
  • Collects data, performs calculations, updates payroll master file and transmits data
  • Review and submit weekly and bi-weekly payroll file
  • Process new hires, terminations, wage changes, garnishments, and leaves of absence
  • Prepare reports (headcount, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) for Management
  • Ability to understand the interaction between the payroll and accounting functions
  • Manage relationship with Ultimate provider
  • Work with payroll provider to ensure payroll tax filings are accurate and timely
  • Liaison with labor unions and perform dues reconciliation
  • Responds to employee inquiries, researches errors or omissions
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
  • Prepare and issue off-cycle checks when needed
  • Completes wage verification, exit paperwork and unemployment verification
  • Recommend new and more efficient payroll processes to Management
  • Manage 401k contributions, deductions and loan repayments
  • Train internal employees on timekeeping system, payroll practices and company requirements and policies.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • 4 year college degree
  • 3+ years solid experience with payroll processing and time keeping software
  • Experience using Ultimate software preferred, though not required
  • Familiar with state and federal tax and wage laws
  • Strong computer skills, specifically in Excel; proficient in data entry and time management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to help a large employee base
  • Ability to manage 1-4 people
