Position Overview:

The Climate Corporation is looking for a passionate Atmospheric Scientist to join our Weather team. We leverage diverse datasets and cloud computing to tackle real-world problems facing farmers using our expertise in atmospheric science, statistics, machine learning, agronomy and software development.  We collaborate across the Science organization to help build and create the digital agricultural tools of tomorrow. The ideal candidate is an atmospheric scientist experienced working with a variety of observational datasets to evaluate novel scientific solutions to real-world problems.  They have demonstrable data science and computational skills, desire to work in a highly collaborative team environment, and excellent communication skills

What You Will Do:

  • Design, implement, and test new weather-based agricultural solutions in a fast-paced and cross-disciplinary environment
  • Create, maintain, and evaluate state-of-the-art weather datasets for use in agronomic solutions across the organization
  • Define and drive new observational data solutions to support the creation and validation of our weather solutions
  • Write beautiful, robust, well-documented and well-tested research and library code

Basic Qualifications:

  • MS in atmospheric science or a closely related discipline
  • 2+ years experience working with, and effectively employing, a variety of observational and remote sensing weather platforms (e.g., satellite, radar, and sensor networks)
  • Track record of applying research in atmospheric science to real-world problems
  • Exceptional programming skills with Python (including Pandas, Numpy, Scipy, and general scientific python libraries) or Matlab with demonstrated ability to write well-structured, well-tested, maintainable, performant, and well-documented code.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using observational datasets to evaluate numerical weather prediction models
  • Insight into how weather impacts agriculture
  • Understanding of different data assimilation techniques used in numerical weather prediction
  • Experience with machine-learning methods and data science techniques applied to weather-based problems
  • Experience with other programming languages like Scala, Java, or C++ and contributions to open source scientific software
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to convey rigorous technical concepts and considerations to non-experts
