Principal Engineer, Mobile Architecture

Position Overview

The Climate Corporation is helping modernize the agriculture industry. Our Fieldview suite of applications and connected devices allow farmers to understand and manage their farm operations. We collect, process, and analyze vast amounts of agronomic data to help our growers realize the full potential of their farmable land. These insights allow farmers to produce enough food to feed our ever-growing population.

As a senior technical leader in our Fieldview Application engineering organization, you will guide the architecture and design of our mobile applications across all platforms. You will be accountable for the design and technical stewardship of existing and next-generation mobile applications that make. You will drive mobile architectures that facilitate the acquisition and accuracy of quality farm data and present farm management insights in an easy and intuitive way for farmers around the world.

What You Will Do

  • Lead technical direction and architectural evolution of our Fieldview Mobile Applications
  • Collaborate with product, design, and engineering to create great mobile experiences for the agriculture industry
  • Partner with product, design and engineering to establish and steward a multi-year Mobile roadmap
  • Design & Develop mobile applications to present agronomic, geospatial, and planting information on maps, charts, and feeds 
  • Design & Develop secure, scalable, efficient and fast native mobile applications
  • Design common shared libraries and frameworks to support multiple native applications
  • Plan, lead and guide mobile improvements and architecture that impact several applications across iOS and Android platforms
  • Partner with other architects and technical leads to collaborate, design, and validate appropriate solutions and institute appropriate data governance mechanisms.  
  • Represent Climate and make presentations at Meetups, User Groups, and Conferences
  • Assess next-generation mobile design patterns and architectures to support use cases unique to the agriculture industry including offline synchronization, animated map layers, and animated charts
  • Work with key leaders and subject matter experts in our Data Acquisition, Data Science, and Product organizations to integrate and enable the latest agronomic data innovations and data quality algorithms.   
  • Evangelize and mentor others on topics such as mobile architecture best practices and techniques.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
  • 12+ years experience designing and implementing business and consumer mobile products
  • Significant experience developing and launching iOS or Android mobile applications using Swift, Objective-C, Java, or Kotlin
  • Demonstrated experience writing architectural requirements and systems design documents.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant experience developing and launching iOS or Android mobile applications using Swift, Objective-C, Java, or Kotlin
  • Experience with cross-platform, portable libraries and SDKs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner to engineering and non-engineering audiences
  • A passion for excellent mobile user experiences
  • Expertise that span organizations and technologies
