Data Scientist - Crop Management

Position Overview: 

The Crop Management Team at Climate Corporation is looking for a researcher with applied experience in data science, machine learning, or statistics. This position is within the science R&D team that leverages numeric modeling, big data, and cloud computing to address scientific challenges in precision agriculture. This team builds predictive models that are used both in-house and by farmers, agronomists, and consultants to optimize their management programs and economic returns. The successful candidate will leverage their data science skills with large datasets to help our growers better manage key aspects of their operations.



What You Will Do:


  • Explore and munge large and diverse agronomic datasets as part of building models
  • Design, prototype, and test predictive models using diverse techniques that include, but are not limited to, machine learning and statistical modeling
  • Select the most appropriate modeling techniques and data visualizations for large datasets
  • Work closely with a team of world-class scientists, engineers and mathematicians to deliver impactful scientific research
  • Perform collaborative, high quality, reproducible research

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD with 1 year of experience or MS with 2 years of experience in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Machine Learning, or another highly quantitative discipline
  • Strong proficiency with scientific computing language such as Python or R
  • Experience using version control systems
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong drive to learn new topics and skills 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using tools for big datasets, such as SQL
    • Experience in PySpark, SparklyR, or SparkR
  • Ability and inclination to work in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Desire to see ideas realized in practice
  • Applied experience with agricultural science and/or agricultural datasets
