The Opportunity: 

The DFS Engineering organization is seeking an Engineering Business Strategy Lead to deliver on projects from the very strategic to the very operational.  Reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering, this role will serve as a member of the leadership team to establish departmental strategy and priorities, identify opportunities, and provide recommendations for improving collaboration across teams and functions, plan content and ensure meetings are focused and efficient, help develop and track departmental performance metrics and goals, and partner with the Vice President of Engineering on other essential activities.  The successful candidate will interact with various areas of the organization and be exposed to very senior executives of DFS.

What You'll Do: 

  • Lead the development and prioritization of strategic initiatives across the organization, in collaboration with other members of the Leadership Team 
  • Identify and develop recommendations to improve organizational productivity 
  • Use deep technical knowledge, experience in industry, and strong business acumen to make strategic decisions on behalf of the leadership team that focus attention on the most important activities 
  • Lead the development of departmental high-level goals, including consistent tracking, refinement, and reporting against these 
  • Develop action plans and lead the execution of special projects essential to the success of the department, including developing materials for annual planning and other key strategic decision-making processes 
  • Effectively manage ad hoc projects and analysis as required 
  • Use analysis to influence and drive action within engineering and our business partners by using fact-based, holistic and forward-looking perspectives to identify emerging issues and assist in implementation of strategies 
  • Drive clear and effective communication with the Engineering Leadership team, as well as with the broader engineering function 
  • Represent Vice President of Engineering by serving as a liaison and/or delegate in meetings, where appropriate, regularly interacting with senior leaders and executives across the company 

About You 

What You'll Need:

  • In related field (Agriculture, Life/PhysicalScience, Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, etc): Bachelor’s degree & 10+ years work experience OR MS/MBA & 7+ years work experience OR PHD & 5+ years work experience 
  • Experience planning and leading multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously; Strategic mindset, excellent problem-solving skills, and high degree of resourcefulness 
  • Strong facilitation of leadership teams; Ability to defuse conflict 
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment as well as ability to work independently and represent decisions, where appropriate, of the Vice President of Engineering 
  • Excellent communication, analytical, project management, presentation and interpersonal skills

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience or training in executive management and/or corporate strategy 
  • Willingness to travel to various work and office locations on an as-needed basis (up to 20%) 
  • Familiarity with business and organizational concepts; analytical skills to compile information requiring combinations of data from multiple sources. 
  • Excellent business and organizational acumen and program/project management 
  • Experience driving strategy into execution and leading complex programs 
  • Effective time management and organization skills with a proven ability to multitask in a high growth environment 
  • Solid work ethic, including ability to follow-up, focus on details, and take initiative 
  • Intellectual curiosity and drive for continuous improvement
