Strategic Innovations and Partnerships – Partnership Developer  

The Digital Farming Solutions (DFS) organization is seeking a Partnership Developer to create and foster external partnerships to advance DFS strategic goals.  The role will leverage outside parties to fill gaps in internal capabilities to reach business objectives.  The role will have responsibility for understanding regional and cross-divisional strategic needs, and work towards filling gaps or building capabilities with outside entities.  It will be key to work with leaders across the organization to ensure proper setup and management of the relationships.  The Partnership manager will also leverage their outside connections to foresee industry trends and aid in new Business Development opportunities.  The successful candidate will interact with various areas of the organization and be exposed to senior leaders of Climate LLC as well as Bayer Crop Sciences.  

The position will report to the lead of the Strategic Partnerships and Innovation (SIP) team.  The SIP team is responsible for accelerating and enhancing our $19B agricultural business.  Digital farming is a new and complex business opportunity that is positioned to fundamentally transform our agricultural business.  The work at Climate is core to our Bayer Crop Science mission of creating tailored solutions via world-class innovation, new standards in sustainability, operational efficiency and pioneering the digital transformation of agriculture and our company.

What You Will Do: 

  • Work across Digital Farming Solutions and Bayer Crop Science organizations to enable a portfolio of external partnerships in order to deliver our partnership strategy  
  • Holds accountability for developing, aligning, communicating, implementing and managing partnership strategies for all products under their responsibility including coordinating external interactions and driving internal communication/consensus building. 
  • Negotiating agreements with external research institutions and commercial technology providers, including: determining preferred deal structures, term sheets, collaborations, partnerships, co-development agreements, licenses, and asset acquisitions 
  • Setting negotiation strategies and leading internal negotiation teams through closing transactions 
  • Interfacing with cross-functional teams to complete pre-close activities, including technology evaluations, commercial/strategic assessments, financial modeling, intellectual property analyses, compliance with internal and external policies, and internal approval requirements 
  • Reporting to senior management on the status of negotiations/collaborations; 
  • Providing coaching on licensing strategies and deal terms to internal teams which utilize technology licenses as an aspect of their operations. 
  • Use deep technical knowledge, experience in industry, and strong business acumen to make strategic decisions on behalf of the organization that focus attention on the most important activities 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Agriculture, Life/PhysicalScience, Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, etc) & 10+ years work experience OR MS/MBA & 7+ years work experience OR PHD & 5+ years work experience 
  • Ability to understand and extrapolate partnership opportunities in the context of agronomic system thinking 
  • Experience planning and leading multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously; Strategic mindset, excellent problem-solving skills, and high degree of resourcefulness 
  • Strong facilitation of leadership teams 
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment as well as ability to work independently and represent decisions 
  • Excellent communication, analytical, project management, presentation and interpersonal skills 
  • Understanding of the principles of finance/accounting, contracts, and intellectual property 
  • Broad understanding of biological and/or chemical science 
  • Ability to develop collaborative working interactions with internal and external partners    

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Excellent analytical and modeling skills and project management experience 
  • Experience driving strategy into execution and leading complex programs 
  • Effective time management and organization skills with a proven ability to multitask in a high growth environment 
  • Solid work ethic, including ability to follow-up, focus on details, and take initiative 
  • Intellectual curiosity and drive for continuous improvement
