Terran Orbital is seeking a skilled Cloud Engineer with a strong background in Azure AKS or AWS EKS to strengthen our cloud infrastructure services. This role is crucial for developing and managing secure, scalable, and resilient cloud solutions in Azure GovCloud or AWS GovCloud environments. These solutions are vital for our mission-critical satellite production and ground network systems. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of container orchestration services, particularly Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), and their application in government-regulated cloud environments.    

This role reports to the Cloud and Software Manager and is crucial for cross-functional collaboration. The Cloud Engineer will work alongside teams from engineering, IT, operations, and software development to ensure the seamless integration and optimal performance of our cloud-based systems.    

 Key Duties and Responsibilities     

  • Design and oversee our cloud infrastructure in both Azure GovCloud and AWS GovCloud, focusing on the efficient use of Azure AKS and AWS EKS for Kubernetes services. Ensure these systems adhere to our performance, security, and compliance standards.
  • Utilize Terraform to automate the provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud resources, emphasizing Kubernetes clusters to streamline operations and enhance reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, IT, operations, and software development teams to integrate cloud solutions effectively into our satellite manufacturing and data processing workflows.
  • Conduct thorough security and compliance assessments, particularly focusing on the management of Kubernetes within the regulated environments of Azure AKS and AWS EKS.
  • Proactively monitor and troubleshoot the cloud and Kubernetes infrastructure, addressing any issues to maintain optimal performance and security.

 Qualifications and Skills     

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in cloud engineering with a focus on Azure AKS, AWS EKS, and Terraform.
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or relevant STEM field preferred but not required if candidates possesses at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure automation, with extensive experience in managing Kubernetes environments.
  • Understanding of cloud security and compliance, especially within Azure and AWS government cloud platforms and Kubernetes services.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies, particularly Docker, and a comprehensive understanding of Kubernetes.
  • Problem-solving skills, with a collaborative approach to addressing technical challenges.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to a broad range of audiences within the organization.

Salary Range $100,000-$160,000                   

Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Physical Demands     

An employee must meet the physical demands described to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. In performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to sit or stand for long durations of time, in addition to bending, reaching, and walking. This would require the ability to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. This position is generally sedentary, with substantial computer usage.    

Work Environment     

The job operates in a professional office environment but in a manufacturing company. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners.
