Terran Orbital Corporation is seeking a motivated, experienced, and energetic Orbital Welding Technician to help with our Propulsion System Products.    

Terran Orbital is a leading worldwide provider of nanosatellite and microsatellite vehicles, services, and solutions to Commercial and Government customers. As an Orbital Welding technician, you will be responsible for Tube bending, Tube fitment, trimming, Orbital welding, high pressure proof testing, leak testing and mechanical integration.   

This role is on our 1st shift (Monday-Friday) from 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM.     

  Key Duties and Responsibilities    

  • Cut, trim, fit and orbital weld propulsion tubing assemblies.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using calibrated hand measurement tools to verify tubing in compliance with released drawings.
  • Assists with the development of tooling for tubing assembly accuracies/fitment.
  • Evaluate, verify, and ensure all safety protocols are adhered to for proper execution of proof and leak testing operations.
  • Adhere to all safety requirements wearing appropriate PPE as deemed necessary.
  • Establish and maintain all pressurized systems to ensure system integrity and cleanliness requirements.
  • Reports to a supervisor (typically a foreman) daily with limited direction in addition to established working processes and procedures. Will perform additional duties as to complete the system installation as required.
  • Train new hire employees; maintain and develop skills for functional team members; certify employees as required.
  • Subject matter expert for the functional area available to answer technical / product questions from team members and other department employees.
  • Advise team members on technical decisions related to the team’s product and act as a responsible manufacturing engineer on non-conformances and work instructions.
  • Resolve and analyze manufacturing and test discrepancies, while interfacing with the quality team (resolving issues for design, fabrication, and assembly).
  • Drive continuous process improvements to focus on cost reduction in every element of the production processes.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with existing processes or products and make necessary modifications and improvements.
  • Support space hardware testing, including tooling design and data analysis.
  • Act as point of contact in daily and weekly program and production meetings and provide updates to leadership as required.
  • Support Harness assembly non-conformance disposition and tracking
  • Work with Harness Contract Manufacturers (CMs) to identify and communicate Design for Manufacturability (DFM) issues.
  • Work with Engineering teams to communicate Harness Assembly and Fabrication issues.
  • Compile and report product and process yield results and recommend improvement actions as applicable.

 Qualifications and Skills    

  • High School or GED
  • 3+ years verifiable work experience in Orbital Weld applications and associated equipment/tooling for fusion weld systems
  • Experience working with flight hardware assemblies in a cleanroom environment.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and follow specific work instructions.
  • Familiar with mechanical hand tools and verifying tool calibrations.
  • Familiar with AWS D17.1 Aerospace Fusion welds
  • Ability to inspect orbital welds and interpret/identify weld bead inconsistencies.
  • Visually inspect welds and verify quality utilizing borescopes and other inspection methods.
  • Ability to program weld schedules and adjust weld parameters to establish WPS/PQRs
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Desired Skill/Experience   

  • Responsible for maintenance, loss, or proper application (e.g., tools & equipment, etc.). Provides guidance and training to less experienced team members.
  • Complies with all disposals, handling, and disposition functions as apparent for materials, consumables, and hazardous materials.
  • Ensures all reliability risks are identified and measures are in place to minimize potential customer impact.
  • Demonstrates the ability to learn specific protocols/specifications for installation or modification to Ultra high purity (UHP) systems.
  • Shows proficiency in system layout and ISO drawings, orbital welding and tube bending.
  • Understands the materials required to complete the project regarding material types, classifications, and part number configurations.

Salary Range $25.00 - $38.00 per hour  
              
Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Physical Demands    

An employee must meet the physical demands described to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. In performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to sit or stand for long durations of time, in addition to bending, reaching, and walking. This would require the ability to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. This position is generally sedentary, with substantial computer usage.   

Work Environment    

The job operates in a professional office environment but in a manufacturing company. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners.
