Terran Orbital is seeking an experienced Lead CNC Machinist to join our growing team. Reporting to the VP of CNC Manufacturing, the Lead CNC Machinist will lead and direct the day-to-day shop floor operations to a group of Machinist, Machine Operators, and other machine shop personnel.   

This role is on our 2nd shift (Monday-Friday) from 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities    

    

  • Maintain the production board by making sure the job prioritization is up to date by adding jobs to the board and removing completed jobs as they are communicated from the production team
  • Assist the production team as necessary on due dates, production conflicts, and possible production issues for all manufacturing processes
  • Manage the flow of work on the machine shop floor throughout the daily shift
  • Collaborate with engineers, programmers, planners, and quality personnel to guarantee consistency between job schedules and manufacturing process
  • Collaborate to modify product requirements when existing ones are not feasible through the assistance of manufacturing engineers, programmers, planners, and quality personnel.
  • Assist machine operators and machinist as needed to adjust machine speed, feed, tooling issues, and cutting style to ensure precision and accuracy of manufactured parts
  • Ensure machining and manufacturing processes are at optimal efficiency, adjust throughout each job, catch mistakes as they happen, and take necessary measures to eliminate errors
  • Ensure machine maintenance programs are enacted and enforced, and proper startup and shutdown procedures for each machine are followed
  • Ensure all processes and procedures are being followed to ensure product quality and shop safety
  • Ensure all work areas are clean and organized at the end of each shift as well as the overall shop area
  • Attend all meetings as necessary and required; and ensure all machine shop personnel attend meetings as needed, such as daily stand-up meetings
  • Perform all other duties as assigned 

Qualification and Skills    

    

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of experience as a CNC machinist
  • Experience with machine safety and machinery preventive maintenance
  • Understanding of basic G-code and M-code programming

Additional Differentiators    

    

  • Trade school or Vocational School Degree
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • 5+ years of experience as a CNC machinist with 2+ or more years in a leadership position
  • Ability to understand precision and enforce quality standards
  • Extensive CNC programming understanding of G-code and M-code

Salary Range: $28.00 - $36.00 per hour   

Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Physical Demands    

An employee must meet the physical demands described to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. In performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to sit or stand for long durations of time, in addition to bending, reaching, and walking. This would require the ability to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. This position is generally sedentary, with substantial computer usage.   

Work Environment    

The job operates in a professional office environment but in a manufacturing company. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners.
