Terran Orbital is seeking a motivated Ground Network Engineer based at our Irvine, CA location. The Ground Network Engineer is responsible for working with a multidisciplinary team to support the Terran Orbital ground station enterprise and assist in ground station maintenance, upgrades, and new developments. The Ground Network Engineer will support all phases of the ground network, from mission planning, pre-launch testing, tracking support during launches, and regular maintenance activities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to developing and executing procedures required for building and maintaining ground station sites and other related engineering projects. Assist in future pursuits and programs for the entirety of the Terran Orbital ground station network. In this role, the selected candidate will communicate with operators and maintainers, both internal and external of the organization, to support ground network operations.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor, assess and maintain the operational health of the worldwide network of ground stations and associated ground station equipment.
  • Perform antenna systems performance analysis, maintenance, and testing as necessary.
  • Directly work with Terran Orbital’s Mission Operations Team in support of Terran Orbital owned, and 3rd party antenna providers.
  • Update and perform standard operating, maintenance, and anomaly resolution as well as update and redline procedures as necessary.
  • Inventory and keep track of materials needed to provide preventative and corrective maintenance at ground station sites.
  • Characterize and functional test ground station equipment.
  • Support laboratory ground station activities involving spacecraft in development.
  • Participate in planning and execution of the necessary efforts to support engineering projects, future pursuits, and programs.
  • Work with maintenance and technician support groups for offsite ground site locations, to direct maintenance and testing activities.
  • Up to 25% travel

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline from an accredited institution, and 3+ years of one or more of the following sets of experience:
    • Design, installation, test, troubleshooting, and/or repair of radio frequency, network and telephony, or fiber optic equipment.
    • Working as a communications engineering or similar experience with satellite communication fundamentals.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of Signal Processing, RF theory, and electrical schematics.
  • Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to perform duties autonomously with little supervision.
  • Ability to develop written procedures to perform corrective and preventative maintenance, as well as equipment calibration and testing.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information to team and superiors.
  • Ability to generate detailed reports on maintenance activities performed.
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift 25lbs.
  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights, as well as climb ladders and narrow staircases.
  • Ability to occasionally work in non-standard environments – heat, cold, snow, loud noise.
  • Ability to distinguish between different colors.
  • Ability to travel international as required and obtain a U.S. Passport.

ADDITIONAL DIFFERENTIATORS 

  • Experience with developing technical documentation and maintenance plans as necessary.
  • Experience and knowledge with Signal Processing and RF modulation schemes.
  • Experience with third party ground station providers, such as KSAT, AWS, ATLAS, etc.
  • Experience with satellite communications and/or amateur radio license holder.
  • Proficient with Python scripting to automate data analysis.
  • Valid and active U.S. Passport.

Salary Range $100,000-$130,000 

            

Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
