Terran Orbital is seeking an experienced Systems Engineering Manager to join our growing team. Reporting to the Director of Systems Engineering, the Systems Engineering Manager will manage a dynamic team of systems engineers responsible for the Design, Analysis, Integration, Verification, Validation, and Operations support of spacecrafts within Terran Orbital’s Portfolio. The Systems Engineering Manager has responsibility for a coherent set spacecrafts products and systems engineering functions that support programs and projects. The Systems Engineering Manager applies their technical and leadership skills in organizing, leading, and guiding execution of sound systems engineering principals within their responsible programs set. The Systems Engineering Manager shares their technical expertise and leadership in mentoring, training, and leading technical system designs and architectures. The Systems Engineering Manager will manage team efficacy and execution to meet the business needs.

  Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, directs, reviews, and coaches the work of engineering professional direct reports to accomplish program, project, and departmental responsibilities.
  • Responsible for team members support, resource planning and forecasting, skillset identification, engineering tool implementation, and product/process standardization for program level support in systems architecture, design, integration, launch, and operations.
  • Leads and establishes goals, objectives, and training for the team with direct impact on short- and long-term operations results.
  • Ensuring knowledge capture and knowledge transfer by working with and mentoring engineering members
  • Executes strategies and roadmaps items for systems architecture and program level developments.
  • Propose and execute process improvements to maximize efficiency, quality, and technical fidelity of engineering products to support interoperability and flexible and state-of-the-art architectures
  • Drive team to achieve annual goals and objectives and manage complex project and program initiatives of strategic importance to the organization.
  • Maintain outstanding communication with higher management and with the employees in the department.
  • Provide surge support in an individual contributor capacity as needed to ensure your teams responsibilities are met.
  • The teams the Systems Engineering Manager will lead are responsible for one or more items including:
    • Designing and developing optimal space vehicle architectures and detailed mission solutions to complex space domain challenges for various remote sensing, RF, and optical applications
    • Mission Concept of Operations refinement, mapping, and application
    • Requirements generation, derivation, decomposition, and mapping
    • System Definition Baseline configuration management and control
    • Logical and Physical Architecture definitions and interface management
    • System-level design activities to include State-Machines, Orbital dynamics, and Communication architectures

 Qualification and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or the sciences
  • 7+ years of experience as a technical contributor or leader for space-domain missions
  • 3+ years of experience leading/managing/tracking projects proposals, processes, and employees working within a systems architecture engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated experience and success with technical leadership of launched or operational space domain systems
  • Demonstrated ability to make complex critical decisions promptly
  • Experience leading complex initiatives, with a proven track record of collaboration and coordination across internal and external stakeholder organization
  • Demonstrate a proven track record of applying successful expertise to sophisticated systems challenges
  • Experience with risk, issue, and opportunity management
  • Understanding of how people, processes, tools, systems, and leadership concepts of operations operate to achieve goals
  • Proven ability to deliver effective communication verbally, written, and through well-crafted presentations across all levels of an organization, including executive leadership
  • Impeccable attention to detail and a sense of urgency
  • Ability to self-govern with minimal supervision, establish workload priorities, and utilize efficient time management practices to achieve programmatic or strategic initiatives

   Additional Differentiators

  • Experience and success with space-based reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety
  • Familiarity with satellite system budgets, including mass, power, delta-V, link, and data budgets
  • Experience and success with encrypted communications architectures and devices and data products
  • Demonstrated experience and success with Optical or RF systems

Salary Range $180,000 - $230,000

Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Physical Demands

An employee must meet the physical demands described to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. In performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to sit or stand for long durations of time, in addition to bending, reaching, and walking. This would require the ability to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. This position is generally sedentary, with substantial computer usage.

Work Environment

The job operates in a professional office environment but in a manufacturing company. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners.
