POSITION OVERVIEW
The Instructional Designer leverages their experience in content creation, design and instructional technologies to create impactful learning experiences for our customers. They are able to produce a range of both video and written content that addresses complex topics effectively, driving customer success and engagement. They work closely with product teams, marketing, and other stakeholders to maintain a high degree of subject matter expertise (SME) and advocate for a best-in-class user experience. Additionally, they stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in instructional design, continually improving their practice and challenging the rest of the team to do likewise.
POSITION LOCATION
Hybrid (MI - In office a minimum of 20%)
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and develop clear and engaging video tutorials, written tutorials, visual graphics, email series, webinars, and more
- Create video assets including professional looking titles, motion graphics, and images
- Develop tutorial content plans in collaboration with information developers to support product releases
- Collaborate with engineering and user experience teams to develop effective in-product onboarding
- Evaluate content effectiveness by leveraging video engagement rates, webinar survey results, Google Analytics, SEO metrics, LMS data, and customer feedback.
- Develop a thorough understanding of our users, how our products solve their problems and advocate for them when working with product development teams
- Be a subject matter expert on TechSmith software and services
- Maintain expert knowledge of industry best practices and how to implement them
- Challenge yourself and the rest of the team to improve their craft

REQUIRED SKILLS AND BACKGROUND
- Experience creating engaging instructional videos and graphics
- Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, video scripts
- Strong organization skills and high attention to detail
- Ability to manage all aspects of a project including planning, work estimates, stakeholder communication, timelines, execution, etc.
- Ability to lead a group of content creators in the execution of a content strategy tied to a tight deadline
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and provide timely and effective feedback
- Willing to learn new technologies and share that knowledge with others
- Experience supporting software development in an agile environment
PREFERRED SKILLS AND BACKGROUND
- Proficient in all TechSmith products
- Familiar with common design tools (Canva, Figma)
- Familiar with common publishing platforms (WordPress, YouTube, Wistia)
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript
