Company Background and Culture:

Florence Copper is expected to have the lowest energy and greenhouse gas-intensity (GHG) of any copper producer in North America and will reduce the United States’ reliance on foreign producers for a metal considered to be critical for the transition to a low-carbon economy.  
 
Florence Copper is a wholly owned subsidiary of Taseko Mines Limited which is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada.  Taseko is also the operator and the owner of the Gibraltar copper/molybdenum mine in Canada and various other development projects. 
 
Overview: 
The Senior Plant Engineer is responsible for safe, cost effective production of copper from Florence Copper’s ISCR solvent extraction and electrowinning (SXEW) plant. The role requires a combination of engineering skills, communication skills, problem-solving skills, the ability to work closely with a dynamic team, and an in depth understanding of plant operations.
 
Responsibilities
  • Reporting on copper production, SXEW performance, and Key Performance Indicators
  • Assist Operational Superintendent with management of operational manpower
  • Direct and lead activities as needed to meet performance and production goals
  • Monitor and optimize processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve SXEW Plant performance.
  • Analyze operational data to identify areas for improvement and collaborate with team to implement short-term and long-term corrective actions.
  • Work closely with operations, tech services, maintenance, and other members of the team to optimize SXEW performance
  • Ensure that all plant systems adhere to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental/safety protocols.
  • Training of operational staff in plant operations
  • Prepare written technical reports, presentations, and documentation on plant performance, and project progress.
  • Collaborate with other departments and provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support for the plant, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted operations.
  • Collaborate with other departments on implementation of new processes/technologies to enhance SXEW plant performance
  • Act as Operational Superintendent during his absence Duties as assigned by Operations Superintendent

 

 
Minimum Qualifications
 
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or other related field required.
Experience: 
  • Team leadership and management of operational personnel
  • Proficiency in plant operations including electrochemical and hydrometallurgical processes.
  • Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and implement process improvements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to plant systems in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to mining and hydrometallurgical processes
 
Preferred Qualifications
 
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or a related field required.
Experience:
  • 5 years supervisory experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in copper SXEW operations
  • Proficiency in electrochemical and hydrometallurgical processes.
  • Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and implement process improvements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to plant systems in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to mining and hydrometallurgical processes
Work Environment:
  • Lifting and carrying large (50+ lbs) tools and equipment independently.
  • Working in various weather conditions for long periods of time.
  • Must work in compliance with the Florence Copper’s site Health and Safety program.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening test and background check
