Role Overview
We are seeking a project focused Tailings Engineer to lead capital and sustaining projects associated with Gibraltar Mine's Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and mine water management infrastructure. The role will manage assigned projects from scope development through engineering, procurement, construction and closeout..
Core Responsibilities
- Lead assigned TSF capital and sustaining projects including dam raises, pipelines, pumping systems and supporting infrastructure.
- Develop project scopes, cost estimates, budgets, schedules, execution plans, procurement packages and risk assessments.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering and review designs, drawings, specifications and technical deliverables for constructability and operational requirements.
- Manage engineering consultants, contractors and vendors to safely deliver projects within approved scope, budget and schedule.
- Coordinate field execution, construction progress, commissioning and project closeout documentation.
- Apply value engineering by identifying opportunities to improve constructability, project cost and lifecycle performance.
- Coordinate with the Engineer of Record, Tailings Team, Operations, Maintenance and other site departments to support safe and effective project execution.
- Monitor and report project cost, schedule, progress, risks and key upcoming milestones.
- Support geotechnical investigations, survey programs, field testing and other activities required to advance project designs.
- Ensure work complies with the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia, applicable permits, site standards and approved engineering requirements.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Mining, Mechanical or another related engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC), or eligibility to register or transfer to EGBC.
- Minimum five years of relevant engineering, construction or project management experience, including capital project delivery from scoping through construction and closeout.
- Experience in mining, tailings, heavy civil construction, pipelines, pumping systems or water management is preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an asset.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong project management, contractor management, cost control and scheduling skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making abilities, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical reports.
- Effective written and verbal communicator who can work independently and build productive relationships across operations, technical teams, consultants and contractors.
- Strong Microsoft Office and Excel skills. Experience with Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, MineSight, survey and volume reconciliation is considered an asset. A valid Canadian driver's licence is required.
