POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Material Receiving Inspector is responsible for managing daily quality control inspections of incoming materials, ensuring they meet organizational standards. This includes supplier document compliance, visual inspections, dimensional checks, assembly verification, and occasional onsite supplier inspections if necessary.

 

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct visual inspections, measurements, and tests on raw materials, major equipment, and finished products to identify quality defect and documenting any discrepancies, damages, or deviations from specifications, and promptly notifying appropriate personnel.
  • Utilize tape measures and perform dimensional inspections on critical features to comply with Purchase Order requirements and maintain accuracy.
  • Interpret drawings, procedures, and instructions to ensure conformance to specifications, utilizing test equipment as needed.
  • Test and measure finished products, components, or assemblies for functioning, operation, accuracy, and assembly to verify adherence to functional specifications and quality standards.
  • Mark items for acceptance or rejection, record test results, release materials for use, recommend needed repairs or corrective actions, and complete all necessary documentation requirements.
  • Participate in root cause investigations to identify and address quality issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with other departments to communicate inspection results and resolve discrepancies effectively.
  • Assist in training other personnel on inspection procedures and quality standards as required.
  • Inspect all incoming materials, including raw materials, components, and supplies, according to established procedures and standards, comparing against purchase orders, packing lists, and specifications to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, and internal departments to resolve issues related to material quality, quantity, and documentation, maintaining accurate records of inspections, including inspection reports, certificates of analysis, and other relevant documentation.
  • Follow proper handling, storage, and disposal procedures for rejected or non-conforming materials, participating in developing and improving receiving processes, procedures, and quality standards, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to address material-related issues and ensure timely resolution.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while performing inspection tasks to maintain a safe working environment and perform any other tasks as assigned by TAS.

 

JOB SKILLS:

  • Good organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, Purchase Orders, procedures, and specifications.
  • Ability to communicate written and verbal to various levels of the organization as well as suppliers.
  • Ability to use basic mathematics in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associate degree or better in Applied Science or any other technical degree is a plus

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • ASNT SNT-TC-1A qualified level I in Visual Inspection (NDE)
  • Strong ability to interpret compliance documentation, including purchasing orders, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs)
  • Experience with dimensional inspection equipment such as tape measures and familiarity with warehouse operations.
  • Strong warehouse skills, including inventory management, storage procedures, and materials handling.

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • ASNT SNT-TC-1A qualified level II NDE in Magnetic Particle inspections
  • ASCM (CSCP) Certified Supply Chain Professional
  • OSHA 10 safety certification
  • 8D problem solving methodology.
  • Strong ability to interpret ASTM and ASME compliance requirements.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal; and conduct extensive reading.
