POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Supplier Quality Engineer works to provide the organization with an adequate pipeline of qualified suppliers and manufacturers. The Supplier Quality Engineer works to help determine the effectiveness in which a Supplier can provide its services to the organization and assists in further improving the Suppliers abilities and level of service through the analysis of data and the application quality control processes.

 

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

       Conduct initial and periodic supplier quality audits to ensure suppliers remain in compliance with company’s standards.

       Communicate with Suppliers regularly to address any concerns and foster an environment that facilitates continual improvement.

       Maintain supplier performance evaluation documentation records.

       Assist in tracking Supplier Performance indicators in collaboration with Procurement teams.

       Analyze data, create SCARS as needed and follow the 8D process to ensure responses are delivered and accepted in a timely manner.

       Assist with the warehouse and material receiving inspectors, including communications with Suppliers when there are packaging and receiving issues when materials arrive.

       Assist in developing Inspection Test Plans (with focus on subcontracted service scopes).

       Develop and implement appropriate data collection methods for the Quality department and others as needed.

       Participate in DFMEA / PFMEA discussions.

       Analyze and communicate organizational performance and non-conformance data respective to Supplier activities. 

       Work internally to highlight trending issues and open corrective actions to resolve.

       Assist in working through external nonconformances and issues.

       Will participate in individual education and development programs.

       Stay abreast of all standards, codes, and regulations relevant to TAS.

       Support achievement of quality department objectives.

       Any other work assigned by TAS.

 

JOB SKILLS:

       Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

       Excellent auditing practices.

       Advanced presentation skills using Microsoft Office Suite and other software packages.

       Expert in multiple root cause and corrective action investigation techniques (5 Why, Fishbone, Change/Event analysis, etc.).

       Intermediate with common industrial manufacturing processes (raw material processing, welding, coating, assembly, etc.).

       Intermediate in Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods.

       Excellent in Quality data analytics and interpretation.

       Intermediate in Engineering design principles and design philosophies.

       Basic understanding of metrology and measuring devices and principles.

       Basic understanding of metallurgical principles (MTRs, basic ASTM interpretation of materials, testing to include tensile, Charpy and micro-etch).

 

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

       Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited four-year program.

       ASQ certification in Quality Engineering (Or approved equivalent).

       ASQ certification in Root Cause Analysis (Or approved equivalent).

       ASQ certification in Internal Auditing (Or approved equivalent).

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

10 years + in:

       Flexible schedule and ability to travel for extended periods of time if needed.

       Quality Auditing with focus on Supply Chain.

       Nonconformance and Corrective Action investigations.

       Supplier Performance Monitoring Tools.

       Supplier Development and Improvement Practices.

 

5 years in:

       Risk Identification and Mitigation.

       Welding and fabrication techniques.

       Mechanical & Electrical installation practices.

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

       Bachelor’s degree in quality engineering from an accredited four-year program.

       Certified ASQ Quality Auditor is a plus.

       Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt is a plus.

       Knowledge of new technologies and their application (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, etc.).

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position is at least 25% to 50% at a desk working with a computer with balance of time performing audits off-site. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.  Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading.  The incumbent will be subject to outside environmental conditions.
