POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Quality Control Inspection Lead shall perform quality control inspection of structural and pipe welding, pipe fabrication, and assembly of fabricated structures. The inspections shall consist of visual, dimensional, magnetic particle, assembly, testing verification as well as some field inspection.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform visual, dimensional, and/or magnetic particle inspection of welded parts and assemblies in accordance with the applicable design requirements
  • Interprets Drawings, procedures, instructions, and specifications for determining the acceptance of the product undergoing examination
  • Inspect material at receiving station by reviewing drawings and purchase orders to ensure correct item received as ordered
  • Perform dimensional inspection on piece parts and assemblies in accordance with applicable design documents within the manufacturing facility, at suppliers, or at the customer site
  • Monitor and records results of component testing (hydrostatic testing, coating etc.), witness, or process audits in accordance with documented procedures
  • Prepare nonconformance reports that occur on the floor and complete all other documentation requirements
  • Ensure documentation of inspection and testing is performed by completing daily spreadsheets, file checklists, and file reports and or pictures.
  • Assist in the training of other personnel as required by the appropriate management personnel or as required by the specific task being performed
  • Review and Manage Inspection and Test Plan as required
  • Coordinate with 3rd party Inspections
  • Develop inspection daily/weekly activities
  • Assists the Quality Supervisor or Quality Manager in enforcing standards and complying with regulations
  • Conduct daily safety meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by TAS

JOB SKILLS:

  • Good organizational and communication/writing skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures, and specifications.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, written and verbal, with various levels of management, customers, vendors, and other employees.
  • Ability to use basic mathematics in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Work with minimal supervision in the accomplishment of duties.

 

RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in quality assurance, quality control or quality management
  • Minimum of two years of experience with ISO-9000 or similar quality management systems.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with ASME Section VIII, IX, V, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.5, ASME B31.9, AWS D1 .1, SSPC, or similar welding, construction, and Quality codes.

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associates Degree in Applied Science preferred

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to obtain Visual/Magnetic Testing Level II certification within six months of employment

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Qualifications in NDE methods or a Certified level II
  • CWI or CAWI preferred
  • Electrical component inspection

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally and/or a negligible amount of weight frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, stooping, crouching, talking, hearing and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal and read and understand English.  The incumbent will be subject to shop environmental conditions.
