Senior DevOps Engineer

Non-clinical United States United States

Description

Our engineering team is scaling up, and we’re looking to hire a Senior DevOps Engineer. Our DevOps team takes the lead in building and supporting the cloud-native infrastructure on which the rest of our Engineering team runs: from build pipelines in CircleCI, to Infrastructure-as-Code through Terraform on AWS, to monitoring and alerting in Datadog.

We’re looking to add an engineer with an SRE focus – and an interest in contributing to our Platform engineering, too. We don’t expect you to have experience across everything that falls under DevOps, but what you don’t already know you’ll learn here! Our team members all bring different experiences and expertise to the table; if they didn’t, we’d be boring – and fragile.

You will:
  • Collaborate with our Application, Data, and IT teams to provide support on the underlying needs of our technology – security, monitoring, automation, scaling.
  • Help ensure the reliability of our systems and infrastructure by understanding their design, constraints (especially as we scale!), edge cases, and failure states.
  • Help automate away development toil, from standing up and tearing down staging environments to maturing our build and deployment pipelines.
  • Help setup monitoring and alerting on our system’s health.
  • Help build and maintain our incident response and remediation playbooks.
  • Contribute to building and maintaining the infrastructure our applications rely on, providing pathways to improve their reliability and observability through logging and metrics.

You possess:

  • Technical Excellence – You know that expertise in technology is a journey, not a destination. You know industry best-practices, and you’re learning how they change over time. You build on your hands-on experience by learning how and where the field is advancing.
  • “Strong Opinions, Loosely Held” – You look at solutions in terms of their trade-offs, and you recognize when to apply common design and architectural patterns, but you’re always learning how different contexts can demand different solutions.
  • Collaborative approach – You believe that teams can be greater than the sum of their parts when everyone is invited to the table. You know that inclusion is proactive, and you support your teammates to help them do their best work.
  • Outcomes Over Outputs mindset – You believe that technology is a means to an end, and you keep an eye out for the simplest solution to the problem.

You Demonstrate:
  • 3-5 years’ experience in DevOps / SRE
  • Familiarity with common tooling and AWS services, including monitoring and alerting tools
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and Terraform
  • Experience with shell scripting and with high-level programming languages – you don’t need to ship React components, but you’ll need to know what’s important in our logs and traces
  • Experience with a modern DevOps mindset – focus on outcomes, experiment and learn, provide visibility, start small and iterate
  • Experience with cross-functional and cross-technical collaboration
  • Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Comfort with change – we’re a startup, and our processes evolve to meet the size and stage of our teams and technology
