Senior Structural Engineer

Position Purpose
TAIT is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our Wakefield team, supporting the delivery of complex, bespoke projects across the live entertainment, experience, and automation sectors.
This role is suited to a highly capable engineer who can take ownership of structural analysis and design from concept through to delivery. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to develop safe, efficient, and innovative solutions for dynamic and often unconventional structures.
Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver structural engineering analysis and design across a range of bespoke systems including structures, machinery, and rigging
- Perform detailed calculations using hand methods, engineering judgement, and advanced analysis software
- Translate conceptual designs into robust engineering solutions that meet client, regulatory, and internal requirements
- Collaborate closely with design studios, project managers, and manufacturing teams to support project development and execution
- Provide clear and timely communication of engineering results, risks, and recommendations
- Ensure compliance with relevant UK and international standards and codes
- Support and guide junior engineers, contributing to knowledge sharing and team development
- Engage with external engineering partners and third-party consultants where required
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering tools, processes, and standards within TAIT
- Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and technical discussions
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
- Extensive professional experience in structural engineering, with a strong focus on analysis and design
- Demonstrated experience delivering complex or bespoke structures, ideally within entertainment, temporary works, or similarly challenging industries
- Strong understanding of structural behaviour including stress, deflection, stability, and dynamic effects
- Proficiency with structural analysis tools (e.g. RISA-3D, SAP2000, Robot, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g. Eurocodes, BS standards, or international equivalents)
- Experience designing with materials such as steel and aluminium; knowledge of composites is advantageous
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or actively working towards chartership is desirable
- Experience in entertainment engineering, stage machinery, or kinetic structures
- Exposure to dynamic or moving structures and load cases
- Experience working in a design-for-manufacture environment
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers
