Job Responsibilities: What you will do

To assist the Terminal Service Leader to maximize the efficiency of the maintenance work force and ensure cost effective utilization of the maintenance facility. This position is available at Large Shops Only or Medium Shops (Detroit and Columbus) where Area Service Leader is serving as Terminal Service Leader. Also available at Lewis Prison Shop.

  • Leads the maintenance shop and provides daily supervision of shop supervisors/lead persons/shop employees.
  • Monitors the purchasing of repair parts and ensures the maintenance of equipment is completed in the most cost effective manner possible.
  • Responsible for parts inventories, fuel purchases, receipts and processing of purchase orders (PO's) for payment of parts, outside labor, and repairs; responsible for local warranty claims and the warranty returns process.
  • Communicates truck availability status; responsible for repair decisions made on equipment in the region.
  • Responsible for employee training and safety programs for maintenance employees.
  • Manages accident estimates and bids.
  • Responsible for building and yard maintenance to ensure the shop is equipped adequately and safely.
  • Interviews and hires prospective maintenance employees.
  • Ensures the shop meets all government regulations (state and federal E.P.A. OSHA).
  • Negotiates with local vendor for uniforms, trash, hazardous material disposal, chemical supplies, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications: What you need to bring

  • Two years heavy duty vehicle and one year maintenance supervision; accounting and business management desired; parts and tire experience helpful; experience in OSHA, EPA helpful, along with hiring and interviewing also helpful with experience in vendor negotiating a plus.
  • Computer keyboarding, 10-key, good verbal and written communication.
  • Associates in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
