We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced character gameplay designer to help create unforgettable characters and abilities for our upcoming AAA cross platform title. As a character designer, you will be responsible for creating memorable characters that move, fight, and control in unique ways. You will work on a cross discipline team of artists, engineers, writers, and more to develop compelling characters that resonate with players. 
What you'll do: 
  • Design and create memorable, unique, visually stunning characters 
  • Design and implement character abilities kits and behaviors 
  • Refine the tactile feel of playing said characters in a third-person action context 
  • Collaborate with combat, enemy, and level designers to create characters that maximize all aspects of the players experience 
  • Refine and improve character designs based on feedback from the development team, playtests, and other sources 
  • Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends and best practices in character design, and contribute to the evolution of our game's artistic style. 
  • 5+ years of experience as a character designer in the video game industry, with at least one shipped AAA title (or working on a live service for an AAA title) 
  • Experience working on third-person action games 
  • Experience building the gameplay abilities of video game characters and how they move through 3D space 
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment 
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Lua, blueprints, etc. 
Bonus points for: 
  • Experience with creating characters for open-world games or games with complex gameplay mechanics 
  • Experience with creating character skins or other customization options 
  • Experience on games with large (dozens+) character rosters 
The base annual salary range for this position in the United States is $60,000-130,000. The base salary is just one part of the overall compensation package. This base pay range is for the United States only and does not apply to international locations. The range for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
