SENIOR LEVEL DESIGNER 
Super Evil Megacorp is looking for a Senior Level Designer to break ground on a brand new AAA project currently in pre-production. In this role, you will spearhead shaping the new world and its encounter spaces, design fantastic traversal playgrounds, craft interesting combat layouts, and surprise players with delightful moments of discovery. We're looking for someone who loves the craft of shaping space, attention, and tension in games. You'll be working alongside our passionate team of artists & gameplay designers to bridge the visual & combat vision of the game and bring the space to life. 
Responsibilities: 
  • Layout and construct game environments, establishing the pacing and flow of the players attention 
  • Collaborate with combat designers to carve interesting arena geometry that complements the unique combat philosophies of the title 
  • Collaborate with art and narrative teams to bring beautiful, lore-ground locations to life 
  • Build open spatial layouts that allow players to fully express their traversal abilities and challenge their mastery 
  • Guide the player's attention and flow, and manage the delicate balance between feeling lost VS big "aha" moments 
  • Work with the art team to translate a visual and environmental story into interesting spaces to traverse 
  • Balance the pacing of discovery, traversal times, and overall playtime 
  • Work with the tech team to advance the internal tooling for level creation and encounter development 
Requirements: 
  • 5+ years of experience with creating a mix of open world and closed combat spaces 
  • Experience with 3D level design tools, and game editors 
  • An eye for shaping visually striking concepts into spaces that also express the game's mechanics 
  • Passion for open world and exploratory level design 
  • A great instinct for the best way to balance art and Level Design, so spaces simultaneously look great and play amazingly 
  • Experience helping tools engineers develop great tools 
  • Experience with software such as Maya, Houdini, and other relevant world-building tools 
Bonus points for: 
  • Programming or scripting skills 
The base annual salary range for this position in the United States is $60-120K. The base salary is just one part of the overall compensation package. This base pay range is for the United States only and does not apply to international locations. The range for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
