Senior Technical Game Designer

Game Design

Description

While many studios talk about wearing many hats, our hats are just a bit more fun. As a Sr. Technical Game Designer, you will work alongside a senior strike team of designers, engineers, and artists who regularly push the boundaries of design and technology. To excel in this role you should be excited to get your hands dirty with the full spectrum of design, including (but not limited to!):

  • New player experience
  • Progression and loadout systems
  • Level and game mode design
  • Character design and AI behaviors
  • Creative worldbuilding
  • Game balance

Super Evil Megacorp designers are lightning fast, highly iterative, and highly technical. In this role, you will have a substantial, player-facing impact on the features and products we create, both in the design decisions and the execution. These are the traits we expect from candidates:

Creative. You’ve kept that spark of curiosity that brought you to games in the first place. You love exploring new ideas, building worlds, and developing characters. You often find clever ways to reuse tools in unexpected new ways.

Craftsmanship. You strive to make a product that players will fall in love with. You care about the fine details of feedback, responsiveness, and timing. You understand the time balance between innovation and execution.

Architect. You’re comfortable creating systems in ambiguous spaces. You notice patterns that can be optimized, extended, and systematized. You understand there’s no such thing as a perfect system, and can differentiate between when it’s appropriate to write fast code that accumulates tech debt, and when to pull back and build foundational, reusable systems.

Player-focused. You’re excited to work on projects that are directly relevant to players and highly impactful on the game experience. You can marry the needs of the product with designs that engage and charm the user. You’re careful to balance intuition and dogma with real user data and feedback.

Publishing-minded. You’re comfortable putting your work in front of peers and community early and often. You understand the need to set and hit deadlines — and you’re comfortable creating boundaries to hit these. You’re able to define KPIs and articulate your work to other parties, including live ops, marketing, and community managers.

If you have what it takes and you’re ready to make an impact in the industry, Super Evil Megacorp is where you belong.
