The Opportunity!

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Commercial OCC, the OCC Manager is a functional leadership position responsible for providing direction and support to all staff within the Operations Control Centre. The Operations Control Center Manager facilitates and oversees day-of operations and short-term future planning and ensures the efficient execution of the daily flight schedule with a focus on safety, customer satisfaction, and operational expenditures.

The OCC  Manager acts as the key-decision maker for the operation, creation, communication, and execution of network recovery plans during IROPS. This includes input from other units in the OCC including Departure Control, Flight Dispatch, Maintenance Control, and Crew Scheduling.

The OCC Manager shall ensure operational compliance with Transport Canada regulations and the safety, operational and commercial standards prescribed by Sunwing Airlines.

What You’ll Do:

  • Ensure the integrity of day-of operations and short-term future operations are maintained through coordination and collaboration with other units in the OCC.
  • Maintain schedule integrity, fleet allocation for the best operational result and cost efficiencies.
  • Compile daily operations reports and brief the Manager, Commercial OCC on any significant operational matters
  • Monitor and address issues with on-time performance, operational irregularities, and recovery plans
  • Provide macro-level operational analysis, mitigating operational conflicts, inefficiencies, or other matters which may affect operations and facilitate in the planning and execution of solutions.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance Control and Flight Dispatch regarding fleet serviceability, reliability, and plans to manage restrictive defects when able
  • Liaise with Departure Control regarding check-in and passenger vetting to minimize or eliminate delays where able.
  • Maintain short-term future planning schedules and coordinate and record information relative to future operations
  • Connect with Crew Scheduling/Crew Travel to ensure adequate crew levels are maintained
  • Champion a departmental culture of operational excellence
  • Assist and support internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Performing any additional duties as assigned by the Senior Manager OCC Commercial.
  • Recommend and action the recovery of flight schedules during Irregular Operation (IROP) situations.
  • Assist with coordinating the day of staffing for the OCC.
  • Drive OTP and Passenger Centric approach.
  • Considering established passenger handling guidelines when making operational decisions such that passenger comfort is maximized, and cost minimized
  • Liaising with Flight Dispatch to create workable operational contingencies in response to poor weather/aircraft mechanical situations
  • Collaborating with Base Managers during periods of adverse weather, either actual or forecast, to create plans that safely maximize customer satisfaction and minimize costs
  • Carefully managing daily aircraft type/tail assignments in accordance with commercial plans to maximize revenue per seat
  • Uphold safety and operational standards to ensure that all practices meet or exceed regulatory and corporate requirements
  • Activate the company Emergency Response Plan as dictated by operational circumstances
  • Ensure that all department employees are performing their duties in accordance with published HR standards and in compliance with company SOPs

 What You’ll Need:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of work experience in an Airline operations control center.
  • Post-secondary education in Aviation Management or a related field, or an equivalent level of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all areas of Airline Operations focused on safety, security, regulatory compliance, excellence in execution and On-Time Performance.
  • Strong communications, organizational and time management abilities with a high attention to detail.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Must hold a Restricted Radio Telephone Operators Certificate.
  • Must meet Transport Canada age requirements.
  • Work experience as a Flight Dispatcher is an asset.
  • Work experience as an Airport Supervisor is an asset.
  • Must be able to work shift work.
