Sumitomo Electric U.S.A. Holdings, Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is looking for a Junior System Administrator who is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining IT systems, as well as working with other staff members on projects and activities for SEG companies in the Americas.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide technical assistance
    • Install, modify, and repair computer hardware, software and peripherals
    • Receive queries from users around the company and walk them through problem-solving processes
    • Provide technical assistance and support for systems, software, and hardware
    • Run diagnostic programs and perform basic troubleshooting
    • Resolve technical problems with Local Area Networks (LAN)
  • Maintain servers and systems
    • Install and configure software and hardware
    • Set up accounts and workstations
    • Manage network servers and technology tools
    • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
    • Troubleshoot issues and outages
    • Work with other staff to ensure security
    • Upgrade systems with new releases and models
    • Train staff on new technologies
    • Create technical documentation and manuals
  • Coordinate IT projects
    • Communicate with internal staff members to identify and define project requirements, scope and objectives
    • Help to create and maintain project documentation, plans and reports
    • Help prepare project proposals, timeframes, schedule and budget
    • Assist in monitoring and tracking project progress and handling issues
  • Improve efficiency in the department
    • Work with other IT staff members to identify problems in the department
    • Research IT operations best practices and implement these measures
    • Investigate software and hardware that could improve department efficiency
    • Work on automating routine tasks
Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in computer science or a related field and 2 - 5 years of related experience and/or training
    • Must have well-developed communication skills in English, with Spanish business language skills preferred
    • 2-5 years of experience with Windows client and server operating systems running in an Active Directory environment
    • Basic understanding of the Linux operating system and the ability to troubleshoot issues on major Linux distributions, including CentOS and SuSE Enterprise Linux
    • Familiarity with relational database concepts and some experience administering a database program such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, IBM DB2, Oracle Database or PostgreSQL
    • Accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task
    • Effectively present information and respond to questions from users and business partners
    • Organizational and time management skills sufficient coordinate and complete competing assignments within established timeframes
    • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
    • Raise issues proactively and in a timely manner
    • Work well independently as well as part of a team
    • Must understand the importance of structure, organization, resource management and to complete critical tasks in a timely manner
    • Must have ability to apply knowledge and common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
    • Must have ability to deal with problems involving several variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
The compensation range for this position is $29.00 to $33.00 per hour.
Compensation may vary depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, competencies and location. Base pay is one part of the total compensation and benefits package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives.
