Position Title: Management Accountant 
Location: Glasgow, Scotland
Reports to: Finance Manager 

Role Purpose

We are seeking an ambitious and experienced Management Accountant to join our Finance team in Glasgow within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The role will provide accurate and timely financial insight across management accounts, manufacturing costs, margins, working capital, and business performance, while working closely with operational and commercial teams to improve efficiency, cost control, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts and financial reports for designated business divisions. 
  • Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring financial information is complete, accurate and supported by appropriate documentation. 
  • Handling of tax matters such as preparation and submit quarterly VAT returns, corporation tax and others.  
  • Review and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances.  
  • Contribute to the preparation of year-end schedules, audit information and statutory reporting support.
  • Prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts ensuring visibility of expected cash requirements and liquidity.
  • Monitor performance against budget, provide regular forecasts and variance analysis.
  • Prepare and post payroll journals across projects and overhead cost centres.
  • Work with production, operations, procurement, sales and supply teams to provide financial insight.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and monthly depreciation.
  • Manage monthly accruals, prepayments, lease and associated journals.
  • Managing multi-currency reporting, FX exposure and intercompany recharges.
  • Collating data for grant claims and liaising with grant authority.
  • Liaising with external auditors, tax advisers on audit, tax, transfer pricing, and other matters.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, and internal controls. 
  • Any ad hoc tasks to support the Head of Finance and Finance Manager. Provide general finance support to the Finance team.

 

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience

  • Part qualified or newly qualified accountant (ACCA/ICAS/CIMA) with 3-5 years management accounting experience. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and month-end reporting.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle or similar.
  • Experience working in a Japanese company desirable.
  • Experience with inventory accounting and manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must have right to work in UK.

About our project in Port of Nigg, Highland
Sumitomo Electric is one of the leading global manufacturers of state-of-the-art high-end electricity transmission
cables, up to and including 525kV HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) cable.

The new factory at Nigg, with investment value announced by the Scottish Government of £350M, will make a
significant contribution towards realisation of the UK Net Zero Target by contributing to critical electricity transmission
infrastructure to connect and deliver renewable energy, including offshore wind, to UK consumers and beyond. 
In addition, the factory will create more than 150 highly skilled jobs in the Scottish Highlands, with maximum
utilisation of the local supply chain for production of cables and construction of transmission cable systems.
In a significant boost for the UK green energy supply chain, Sumitomo Electric has commenced construction
of its state-of-the-art subsea transmission cable factory in the Scottish Highlands.
The factory will supply critical elements for the reinforcement of the UK electricity transmission grid and for
connecting renewable energy production facilities to the grid.
