Position Title: Production Operator
Location: Port of Nigg,Highland

As we prepare to begin production at our state-of-the-art cable manufacturing facility at The Port of Nigg, Highland, we’re looking for enthusiastic, motivated and talented individuals to join our team of Production Operators.

Role Purpose
Upon completion of required training, to competently work in all aspects of the production process in compliance with standard company operating procedures
including Health & Safety, Customer Requirements, Manufacturing Efficiency, Environmental and Quality Standards.

Key Accountabilities
• Within individual range of competence to assist in or set up, operate and close down the process equipment as directed to meet the production plan.
• Perform basic maintenance of production process equipment.
• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping to minimise hazards and accidents.
• Maintain and record as required, process data for analysis and quality audit purposes.
• Carry out tests/inspections identifying and segregating nonconforming measures and outputs.
• Assures and reassures safety procedures are being applied during manufacturing processes at all times.
• Identify, recommend and participate in quality and process improvement efficiencies and utilisation of plant to maximise manufacturing effectiveness.
• Works to requirements set by Work Instructions and that of Supervisor.
• Ensure efficient and complete handover to colleagues on preceding and following shift.
• Reporting of daily shift accomplishments to Supervisor.
• Providing legal requirements are met, the Operator will be trained and qualified to operate Forklift Truck and heavy lifting equipment such as Overhead Cranes.

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experiences
• Standard Grade English and Maths, or equivalent.
• Proven production experience.
• Able to demonstrate experience of working to statutory and company requirements on Health & Safety, Quality and Environment
• Evidence of setting high work standards and a commitment to quality.
• Commitment to achieving and maintaining a high level of safety.
• Identify, recommend and participate in quality and process improvement efficiencies and utilisation of plant to maximise manufacturing effectiveness.
• Ability to operate successfully and effectively in a team.
• Ability to build and sustain effective working relationships and contribute to a positive working environment

The roles will involve shift work, including both day and night shifts, so flexibility and a willingness to work a rotating shift pattern are essential. About our project in Port of Nigg, Highland
Sumitomo Electric is one of the leading global manufacturers of state-of-the-art high-end electricity transmission
cables, up to and including 525kV HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) cable.

The new factory at Nigg, with investment value announced by the Scottish Government of £350M, will make a
significant contribution towards realisation of the UK Net Zero Target by contributing to critical electricity transmission
infrastructure to connect and deliver renewable energy, including offshore wind, to UK consumers and beyond. 
In addition, the factory will create more than 150 highly skilled jobs in the Scottish Highlands, with maximum
utilisation of the local supply chain for production of cables and construction of transmission cable systems.
In a significant boost for the UK green energy supply chain, Sumitomo Electric has commenced construction
of its state-of-the-art subsea transmission cable factory in the Scottish Highlands.
The factory will supply critical elements for the reinforcement of the UK electricity transmission grid and for
connecting renewable energy production facilities to the grid.
