Technical Director of Architecture - 4024
Description
STV is looking for a Technical Director for Architecture in the Buildings and Facilities Division. The right candidate will be responsible for overseeing the quality control reviews of construction documents and submittals prior to being submitted to clients.
Projects include new construction and renovations for various agencies including but not limited to: NYCHA (New York City Housing Authority), NYSCA (New York School Construction Authority), NYCTA/MTA (New York City Transportation Authority/Metropolitan Transit Authority, new justice projects for NYCDOC (New York City Department of Corrections including new and existing prisons/jails that emphasize daylighting and are more humane. Additional projects fall under the markets of transportation, commercial, healthcare, K-12 and higher education, aviation, justice, and science and technology facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Provide quality control reviews and technical support for all phases of construction documentation including both drawings and specifications.
- Provide technical expertise for all phases of drawing reviews.
- Mentoring junior staff through all project phases, from schematic design through construction documentation, and construction administration.
- Provides client relationship management and takes lead responsibility and accountability to management and to the client for overall project performance and success.
- Manages, oversees, and coordinates architectural and design services and tasks.
- Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers.
- Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, safety programs, work plans and performance requirements.
- Assures staffing resources are in line with project budgets and alerts client in a timely manner regarding any additional scope of services required.
- Assures that the project requirements and goals are supported in the structure of the staff and the specific duties and responsibilities assigned.
- Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and reviews project management activities about design and construction.
- Resolves complex, design and construction project related issues, disputes, and disagreements relative to development of design documents.
- Follows and successfully executes the Quality Management System program.
- Reports and collaborates with team members on all project matters.
- Reviews and develops contract documents in coordination with others.
- Identifies risk and successfully creates risk mitigation plans.
- Documents and reports all project data accurately and in a timely manner.
- Creates and presents project data clearly to multiple stakeholder groups.
- Successfully manages and executes the design and/or construction of multiple projects simultaneously, ranging in construction value and complexity.
- Manages and coordinates the planning and design phase of projects with clients, stakeholders, and other team members.
- Successfully manages close out process
- Evaluates, assesses, processes, and manages change order and professional services requests in a timely manner.
- Tracks all project status and provides management reports relative to overall program relative to project delivery schedules.
- Tracks status and provides management reports relative to scheduling, cost control, staffing and other related contract requirements.
- Directs and assists in outreach efforts to provide information about client’s projects.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience including managing and overseeing development of design guidelines, planning, programming, design development and construction documents.
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in Management of multiple design and construction projects; experience within a large capital improvement program and familiarity with relevant codes.
- Experience in various market segments including but not limited to data center, education, healthcare, correctional, corporate commercial, and public / government / institutional facilities.
- BA or BS in Architecture, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
- Ability to travel to multiple client locations and daily client/vendor interaction.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and writing skills, attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- CCM, LEED, and PMP certifications a plus.
- OSHA 10 or 30 hour certification a plus.
- Registered Architect licensure required
- Knowledge of all parts of the project life cycle, to include master planning, design, construction, and closeout.
- Experience in various construction delivery methodologies (Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build).
- Experience in hiring, managing, and directing staff.
- Ability to participate/present regarding project status to clients and stakeholders.
- Experience in AutoCAD, BIM, Revit, eBuilder or other PMIS a plus.
