The STV Pittsburgh, PA office has been providing PennDOT, PA Turnpike, and the City of Pittsburgh exceptional design and construction services for more than 25 years. As one of the premier consultants in the transportation industry, our office provides support in the following areas: roadways, bridges, bridge inspections, commuter and freight rail, and general civil engineering design services. STV has an opportunity for a strategic-minded Transportation and Infrastructure leader motivated by great projects, highly technical teams, and competition to work with our local practice and national centers of excellence to provide superior client service. Specifically, this individual will be an integral part of the Pennsylvania leadership team and will be responsible to develop business, manage and deliver projects, develop staff, and respond to client needs. This is a seller/doer position and requires a self-motivated individual with a desire to grow a practice. The ideal candidate is an individual who desires to lead through example, is professionally respected, an excellent communicator, and possesses a vast understanding of developing client relationships.

The Pittsburgh Transportation and Infrastructure Business Development Director will have a focus on client management and development, serving as a client manager and project manager for future assignments and pursuits with key clients in the area. This individual will be the “face” of STV in western PA and is expected to identify and develop project opportunities, serve as a pursuit champion, and act as a resource for STV pursuits. Duties will also include planning, directing, and monitoring all aspects of western PA Client Service Teams, as well as western PA large multi-discipline project pursuits.

The position will be responsible for assessing the Region’s marketplace and determining the best business approach to win and secure contracts. Their business development efforts will need to include the entire scope of STV services including our center of excellence national practices. Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the Client Manager for selected key clients within the area and be active and visible in the industry.
  • Promote all STV services to clients while working with our project managers, client service teams and centers of excellence
  • Work with regional leaders to drive superior client experience and lead the project pursuit processes based on proven capture techniques.
  • Lead selected pursuits through client relationship development and/or through development of strategy and participation in pursuit activities.
  • Prepare technical and cost proposals to win work.
  • Participate in industry associations and serve as a company role-model in business and community organizations.
  • Identify key investments (talent and technology) that will promote growth and drive STV into industry leadership positions.
  • Develop relationships with industry counterparts in other consulting organizations.
  • Develop relationships with senior leadership in key client organizations.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering major
  • PA PE License is preferred but not a requirement
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in business development and marketing
  • Strong management skills with the ability to plan and coordinate teams to achieve goals
  • Broad knowledge of construction, design and management of Surface Transportation Projects
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to form effective relationships
