Senior Risk Assessor (Remote)


SRC, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced M.S. or Ph.D. human health and/or ecological risk assessor. The position may be filled by work from home or located in one of several possible office locations (Scarborough, ME; Syracuse, NY; Arlington, VA). This scientist will lead and participate in reviewing data and contributing to the preparation and writing of risk assessments and hazard characterizations for our Environmental Health Analysis line of business. This is an office-based, non-laboratory position with approximately 10% travel that will support various programs for the United States Environmental Protection Agency.     • Work closely with senior EPA scientists and project managers to design and implement human health and/or ecological risk assessment (ERA) projects for CERCLA and related hazardous waste sites throughout the U.S.
    • Provide senior-level review of human health and/or ecological risk assessment or other site-related documents prepared by potentially responsible parties (PRPs) and their contractors with respect to scientific validity and compliance with Agency guidance
    • Develop, write and review risk assessments and chemical hazard characterization reports
    • Develop or review of Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) and Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs) to collect environmental data to support human health and/or ecological risk assessments
    • Review, critically evaluate, and summarize reports and studies describing the effects of chemicals on human and/or ecological receptors
    • Work closely with SRC toxicologists and statisticians to develop and implement approaches for evidence integration and to design human health and/or ecological studies to fill data gaps
    • Develop new human health and/or ecological risk assessment tools or guidance
    • Research cross-cutting issues related to EPA site risk assessments
    • Work with multidisciplinary project teams to produce and review risk assessments and address complex research needs
    • Interact closely with SRC's clients as technical expert and/or project manager

Position Requirements:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in ecology, pharmacology, toxicology, biology or closely related field with MS with 6+ years or Ph.D. with 3+ years of relevant work experience (CERCLA site human health and/or ecological risk assessment experience)
  • Demonstrated technical writing and oral communication skills; experience presenting technical information to scientific audiences
  • Experience with development and/or review of human health and or ecological risk assessments for CERCLA sites
  • Experience with design and interpretation of QAPPs and SAPs to collet environmental data for human health and/or ecological risk assessments
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and application of MS Excel
