LVC Firmware Support Engineer


SRC, Inc. is currently seeking a senior firmware support engineer to work out of their Syracuse, NY office. As a senior firmware support engineer, you will work to advance/sustain firmware development efforts for cutting edge electronic warfare (EW) Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) simulation products. Your responsibilities will include supporting the development of advanced EW firmware applications in both laboratory, factory and field environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, debug, verify, document, support, and maintain firmware and software for a portfolio of EW programs
  • Work directly the Lead Systems Engineer and Program Manager to deliver innovative solutions to customer requirements within schedule and financial constraints
  • Prepare and present technical and project status briefings to internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead firmware engineering research and development activities such as customer requirements analysis, functional design, system architecture, and product design synthesis
  • Lead firmware team in the design, test, and integration of complex firmware residing on field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) on existing LVC products
  • Document, develop, and test firmware in accordance with SRC Firmware development processes
  • Lead firmware team in the design, test, and integration of complex C/C++ code residing on microcontrollers
  • Use scripting languages such as Perl and Python to automate tasks
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to junior engineers
  • Provide engineering support for production programs
  • Work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary engineering teams with other firmware, software, systems, mechanical, and RF engineers to provide software solutions that meet customer requirements and expectations
  • Employ code reuse, automated testing, and other methods to deliver code efficiently, quickly, and with high quality
  • Follow an Agile/Scrum methodology with a strong commitment to deliver working code at each sprint interval in support of team goals.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and/or electrical engineering
  • Six or more (6+) years of experience in firmware engineering
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, think independently, and overcome technical challenges
  • Ability to clearly communicate abstract concepts to team members both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work on multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Ability to work with customers to help develop and refine requirements
  • Strong analytical and teamwork skills
  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, BitBucket / Git or similar

 Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with the implementation of digital signal processing algorithms is a plus
  • Experience in the defense industry is a plus
  • Design and testing of custom high-speed circuit boards is a plus
  • EW domain knowledge including understanding of radar, antenna design/analysis, radar signal processing and radar requirements analysis
  • Knowledge of configuration management and process standards (such as CMMI)
  • Experience with DoD / government contractor projects
  • Experience leading a multi-disciplinary engineering team
  • Experience with waterfall and AGILE development methods and tools (such as JIRA)
  • Experience interfacing directly with customers on a technical level
  • Experience mentoring entry level/junior engineers
