Staff SMT Manufacturing Engineer
This position is eligible for a Sign on Bonus based on experience and skill level.
What You’ll Do
Support manufacturing for surface mount electronics (SMT) and through hole soldering
Support specifying new equipment and evaluation of new equipment, processes, and materials
Support SMT initiatives with wide business impact and help proliferate best practices across the SRC enterprise
Own and manage PCA manufacturing processes for in-house production
Yield analysis and root cause identification to drive corrective action and process improvements as SMT Production issues arise
Apply advanced knowledge of engineering principles and concepts to the broad categories of product design, manufacturing, and validation/qualification challenges
Collaborate with product teams early in the development cycle to understand design intent and direction, and to ensure high levels of DFx are achieved
Knowledge and experience with DFM techniques to help facilitate manufacturability of PCBAs and Assemblies. Generate DFx reports to improve manufacturability of new products and reduce process variation
Partner with R&D engineers to drive rigor in deriving appropriate and thorough manufacturing requirements
Provide direct support to factory and sustaining personnel during new product transitions to volume manufacturing
Participate in multiple product manufacturing development efforts simultaneously and partner with various functional resources as required
Coach and mentor engineers and less experienced staff in effective manufacturing design practices and concepts
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or similar field with 4+ years of related experience
Display strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, professional demeanor while interfacing with all levels of the enterprise
Maintain flexibility and stability in a constantly changing technical environment
Apply methodical and analytical problem-solving skills to challenging manufacturing issues
Utilize skills in project management to ensure timely and complete execution of production development efforts
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including using Pivot tables in excel, Cost Point & COBRA experience a plus
Subject matter expertise in DFx principles as part of new product development efforts and production transition initiatives
Ability to utilize Gerber software for DFx Reporting
Ability to translate fully or partially defined requirements into robust manufacturing solutions, in some cases where no precedent exists
Adept at collaborating with product development teams and promoting DFx principles to new product design efforts
Hands-on experience working with sensitive RF measurements and high-speed digital systems
Hands-on experience working with SMT/PCA processes in industry
Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 Solder Requirements – IPC Solder Certification is a plus
Understands the scientific elements of SMT technologies and equipment
