The Cloud organization builds robust and resilient auto-scaling platform solutions for hosting Splunk's next-generation software and services. The teams are fast-paced, high-velocity, and use state-of-the-art technology. The focus is always on automation, solving sophisticated challenges that span across multiple groups within Splunk, and ensuring smooth and expedient services to Splunk users.
We have a substantial AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes presence of large-scale containerized systems. This is an incredible opportunity to use your existing leadership and cloud experience to drive the growth of the Splunk Cloud.
What we’re looking for
The Cloud Operational Automation group is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager (EM) to help lead, build, and coach the team responsible for developing services to address operational toil at scale across Splunk’s Cloud offering, while also driving complex processes towards full automation. This EM will be a leader with expertise in building a highly collaborative, dynamic, and fun team environment. You will embody eagerness to create and own processes for enhancing team health, streamline hiring processes, and find industrious solutions to organizational impediments while working on the automation of compute platforms and infrastructure in the next generation of Splunk’s cloud offering.

- Kubernetes experience. An understanding of working in Kubernetes systems with experience in kubectl and docker containers.
- Security and performance experience. You are knowledgeable of technical excellence and reliability standards related to security, performance, and disaster recovery.
- Infrastructure as Code experience. You have experience in leading, building, and scaling secure large-scale services & systems using tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, and CDK on different cloud providers like AWS and GCP.
- Operational excellence. You strive for collecting robust metrics, data, and monitoring information from our services, ensuring that if an issue arises, the team is alerted before our customers notice. You educate and advocate for engineering best practices.
- Keeping calm and carrying on. You coach teams on appropriately handling a product outage, skills in identifying performance bottlenecks, spotting anomalous system behavior, and determining the root cause of incidents.
- Organized and communicative. You enjoy tracking work in progress, facilitating team dev process rituals, and serving as an example of great communication.
- Open and inclusive. You have a demonstrated ability to foster a culture of inclusivity, diversity, learning, psychological safety, mentorship, respect for differences, and collaboration across all engineering skill levels.
- Cloud and container experience. Experience building and scaling secure services on different cloud providers is a plus.

Requirements: 7+ years of software or systems engineering experience, 1+ years of experience in managing software engineers and/or site reliability engineers, expertise working in a CI/CD environment, and experience in working within cloud platform environments.
