The Senior Manager, Center of Excellence role within the IT Program Management Office (PMO) is responsible for leading a centralized team chartered to develop and implement consistent processes and policies to the broader IT organization. The primary objective is to efficiently and effectively lead complex and cross-functional programs and projects; all while leading the organization’s Lean-Agile journey.

In this role, you will partner with other leaders to define, prioritize the needs of the team, and develop centralized processes that can be consistently applied across IT capabilities and projects. This includes insight into IT projects to ensure consistency, effective delivery, and accessibility of portfolio management tools, knowledge management, and measurements.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead a team of full time employees and contractors/consultants
  • Deploy process improvements across the PMO and IT to increase efficiency and effectiveness for project planning, delivery, and management to enable program objectives.
  • Lead program management governance, conduct regular reviews for key projects and track progress according to key program measurements.
  • Maintain alignment with internal teams and proactively address risk to ensure quality, delivery, and performance.
  • Design and implement balanced scorecards/ dashboards to report on portfolio, projects, vendors and financials.
  • Establish yourself as a lead Agile trusted advisor for the organization and identify a systemic way to identify current state processes, develop future state agile processes, and develop an execution plan for the next 12-18 months.
  • Regularly review and evaluate opportunities to improve project management capabilities and achieve higher levels of maturity and impact.
  • Develop an intake/strategy and prioritization frameworks to ensure we are solving the right problem in the right order that drives the most impact and align with multi-functional teams as needed.
  • Enable the Portfolio/Program/Project teams to develop justification proposals, use cases, and return on investment estimates to acquire executive approval and funding.
  • Drive adoption of Lean-agile, Center of Excellence systems, tools, and knowledge management.

Requirements: I’ve already done that or have that!

  • Expertise in developing and leading IT PMO processes and tool adoption, planning, and budgeting spanning the entire organization, portfolio management using various methodologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading and building new operating models, leading change across the enterprise of talent, processes and technologies
  • Demonstrated ability in leading Agile across enterprises, proficient in talent, tools, governance models, project/financial planning and reporting required for execution
  • Experience in building IT balanced scorecards, measurements, and operational reporting
  • Proven change management, partner management, and communications experience
  • 10+ years’ experience as a program/project manager with experience leading large multi-functional projects.

Preferred knowledge and experience

  • 6+ years people-management experience.
  • 15+ years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 12 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 8 years’ experience; or equivalent experience
  • Expertise in one or more project management methodologies, preferably PMI and Lean-Agile.
  • Six Sigma background, a plus
