Do you believe there can be a greater trust between security, development, and operations? Are you passionate about helping teams develop modern tools and frameworks to improve security in software development? If so, we need you as Splunk's new Junior Technology Advocate for Security.

Technology Advocates are part of the global Technology Advocacy team, working within the Research and Advisory organization for Marketing. They work to educate, influence, excite and activate buyers and influencers. Advocates work closely with their marketing peers, PR, Analyst Relations, sales, and others to produce and deliver engaging content, as well as develop positive relationships with industry peers.

This role is a junior role that requires both a hands-on product and practitioner focus as well as strong communication skills.


Regular domestic travel and occasional international travel should be anticipated. However, all responsibilities are currently handled virtually until it is determined safe to continue travel activities. We care strongly about the health and safety of all Splunkers, their families, customers, and industry peers.

  • Represent Splunk as a creative and energetic security community contributor with competence in discussing the latest advances in subjects such as cloud governance, DevSecOps, and application security.
  • Present exciting and engaging topics at tradeshows, conferences, events, and meetups in three key modes: Earned (invited through proposals and personal networking), Paid (events we sponsor), Owned (events we produce like .conf and SplunkLive)
  • Use your creativity and talent to provide a steady cadence of engaging and informative content in various forms.
  • Help build a notable and positive presence among industry peers through consistent contributions and engagement.
  • Empower customer success as a source of experience and insight at customer meetings, seminars and workshops, and field sales events.


  • At least 3-5 years working with security tooling, security planning and implementation, application security, or equivalent areas.
  • Build and deliver compelling in-person and web-based presentations on engaging topics. An event stage of all sizes should be a comfortable place.
  • Build on your existing portfolio of content addressing multiple technology topics. That portfolio should include several publishing mediums, such as blog posts, articles, videos, podcasts, interviews, research papers, or white papers.
  • Educate customers and partners on how to best ingest, analyze, and respond to security data in development environments.
  • Travel as needed for the position once safe to do so. This role will include an estimated 50-60% travel, including occasional partial weekends.
  • Be an open collaborator who enjoys interacting with others at all levels in both professional and social settings.
  • Dedication to be awesome every single day.

The role is an exciting one requiring a variety of skills and capabilities. The more you already possess, the better, but we will invest in developing your skills further. The following experience would be helpful but is not required.

  • Experience working with development teams, helping them secure their tools and processes.
  • Experience as a Technology Advocate, Developer Advocate, or technical marketing engineer.
  • Splunk experience is ideal, but experience with alternative or complementary security solutions will be considered positively.
  • Experience in a software sales environment with a technical customer-facing role.
  • Not required, but helpful: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related subject area.
