Role Summary

In this role, you'll lead the campaigns marketing function for Splunk’s public sector market and have direct responsibility for implementing those programs in market. You’ll work in close partnership with other members of the public sector marketing team, including the field marketing managers, product marketing managers, and marketing content managers. Your primary objective will be to create customer relevant marketing campaigns that enable the public sector marketing team to drive successful demand generation and awareness programs. But, you will also have responsibility for field marketing execution in our SLED market. The position reports to the Senior Director of Public Sector Marketing for Splunk. This position requires excellent leadership skills, creativity and the ability to build upon and implement new elements that improve Splunk’s strong track record of success in the Federal, State, Local and Education segments within the public sector market. In this role, you will work as a trusted partner to sales, partner marketing, product marketing, field marketing, content marketing, media relations and other cross-functional teams. Outstanding leadership skills, communications skills and collaboration skills are essential. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated track record of using digital and in-person marketing campaign strategies and the latest marketing automation tools to track results. Candidates will also have responsibility for implementing some elements of the campaigns in the field, including maintaining the campaigns on Splunk and Cisco’s websites, working with vendors to implement digital strategies and working with digital marketing team members to communicate digital marketing strategies and techniques.

What you'll get to do

  • Leading and implementing the campaign marketing strategy for Splunk’s public sector market
  • Crafting new programs from scratch and adapting corporate marketing programs for the public sector market and supporting execution of programs and activities in the SLED market
  • Articulating how Splunk solutions help solve specific customer challenges in the public sector market
  • Measuring and reporting results
  • Using and improving Splunk’s brand presence in the market
  • Collaborating and partnering with multiple sales and marketing colleagues
  • Collaborating with partner marketing and integrating partner marketing elements into the campaign marketing strategy

Must-have Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in marketing or equivalent field required.
  • Travel: Some travel to regional marketing events, Splunk events, and internal meetings is required. Approximately three to four times per year.
  • 7+ years with demonstrated success creating and implementing marketing growth strategies within the technology industry. Understanding of and experience working within the public sector marketing strongly desired.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and experience delivering presentations to executive staff.
  • Experience working within the software as a service (SaaS) technology industry.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills.
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in marketing or related field

  • Location: The preferred location for this position is the greater Washington, D.C. metro area. The regional public sector headquarters is based in McLean, Virginia. Qualified candidates outside the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area may be considered.
  • Experience: Working within a matrix-marketing organization where your success and outcomes depend upon working with cross-functional groups that you do not manage.
  • Knowledge: Solid understanding of public sector customer challenges, technology buying processes and various types of public sector technology influencers and buyers.
