This role is a key leadership position on the China Leadership Team, and the senior most HR leader in the region reporting directly to the Vice President APAC Operations - General Manager Suzhou.

A key focus will be placed on driving people agenda, change management, leadership and capability development, and cultural transformation during a time of significant change and business growth. The successful individual will guide the regional HR team in a manner that aligns with corporate strategy and influences business outcomes by developing and deploying strategies that help drive talent retention, recruitment, and elevating commercial capabilities.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide focused, HR leadership that aligns with the business strategy and successfully translates business priorities into proactive people capabilities, while also remaining aligned with the Global HR organizational strategy
  • Accountable for ensuring that Spellman’s brand and reputation remain a key area of focus in all activities intended to attract and retain top talent by ensuring the best possible candidate and employee experience
  • Proven experience developing trust-based relationships with leaders across the organization
  • Proven experience in successfully bringing an external perspective and influencing strategic direction in the areas of employee engagement, change & communications, leadership development and all aspects of talent management
  • Proven experience creating a HR culture that proactively establishes the HR organization as a trusted advisor by demonstrating a strong interest in understanding all aspects of business performance and how HR can best position business leaders to execute the business plan
  • Gathers and analyses internal and external data, evidence-based research, benchmarks, and business metrics to make critical decisions
  • Oversees site compensation and benefit programs to assure competitive pay practices while keeping in mind budgetary requirements
  • Provides guidance and input on organizational design and structure, workforce planning and succession planning in response to shifting external talent market conditions
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance and legal rules and regulations, fulfils compliance and reporting requirement required across all locations in the region
  • Develops and leads a strong, capable HR department that is viewed as a true business partner, proactively addressing complex situations with credible solutions and outcomes to meet business needs
  • Research new HR or organizational trends, applications, training, to ensure the organization is current with HR leading - edge trends and follows the practices within scope of responsibilities
  • Lead change management to drive the continuous improvement culture
  • Collaborate with global HR partners to ensure alignment with global practices
  • Champion CSR activities for China team


  • Bachelor’s degree is required, major of Human Resource Mgmt. is preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin, strong verbal and written English skills
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in HR roles, manufacturing experience will be preferred but is not a must
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as working with cross functional leadership teams as the most senior HR representative on that team
  • Proven track record of creating and developing high performing teams across geographies and cultures
  • Operational and strategic decision-making ability
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in each of the following areas:
    • Solving problems in a collaborative manner, demonstrating critical thinking abilities that reflect high competence in both tactical and strategic decision making
    • Successfully drive initiatives in a matrix environment and to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels in the organization
    • Developing the talent within all HR areas of responsibility, providing feedback, and directing individual development with specific goals and objectives
    • Partnering with commercial leaders on all aspects of employee relations and responsibility of all employee actions



Preferred Requirements

  • HR leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • HR leadership experience over multiple sites dispersed regionally desired
  • HR experience working with a multi-national organization headquartered in the U.S.
  • Experience with Workday and strong preference for someone with experience deploying the Workday system
  • Proven track record of delivering high performance across geographies and cultures
  • Ability to work with cross functional leadership teams as one of the most senior HR representatives on that team
  • Experience planning for and supporting site moves with broad organizational impact to the whole of the organization
