The VP, Associate Creative Director (ACD) of Copy plays a pivotal role within our healthcare marketing and communications company, guiding the creative development and strategic copy direction across multiple accounts and therapeutic areas. This leader combines deep healthcare and pharmaceutical expertise with an innovative storytelling approach, helping to craft and refine brand voices that resonate with HCPs, patients, and caregivers. They are responsible for leading and mentoring a team of copywriters, managing high-level client relationships, and ensuring creative excellence and compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creative Leadership
- Oversee the ideation, development, and execution of compelling copy that aligns with client goals and brand strategy.
- Collaborate with the Creative Director, Art Director, and other cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive, integrated campaigns across all touchpoints.
- Lead brainstorming sessions to generate innovative ideas that bring complex healthcare topics to life for diverse audiences.
- Maintain a high standard of quality across all content, ensuring brand consistency, clarity, and engagement.
- Copy Development & Oversight
- Write and oversee the creation of persuasive, accurate, and compliant copy for various channels, including digital, print, social media, email, video scripts, and presentations.
- Tailor messages for a wide range of audiences, including healthcare professionals (HCPs), patients, caregivers, and internal sales teams.
- Review and edit copy for brand voice, accuracy, regulatory compliance, and adherence to medical and legal guidelines.
- Client Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary copy lead in client presentations, providing strategic insight and defending creative choices with data-driven rationale.
- Develop strong client partnerships to understand their objectives, challenges, and feedback.
- Work closely with account teams to proactively anticipate client needs and present solutions that drive results.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of copywriters, providing constructive feedback to nurture their growth and enhance creative output.
- Conduct regular team check-ins, reviews, and professional development sessions to foster a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Cultivate a positive, inclusive culture that values diversity of thought and innovation.
- Strategic & Analytical Thinking
- Collaborate with strategy and analytics teams to understand data insights and apply them to inform creative decisions.
- Participate in developing creative strategies that align with clients’ business objectives, brand positioning, and market trends.
- Stay abreast of industry developments, competitor activities, and emerging trends to ensure the team’s work is innovative and impactful.
- Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
- Ensure that all copy complies with regulatory standards and undergoes medical, legal, and regulatory review as required.
- Stay current on FDA, OPDP, and other relevant guidelines for pharmaceutical and healthcare advertising.
- Collaborate with legal, medical, and regulatory teams to streamline the approval process.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Marketing, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10+ years of copywriting experience within the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong portfolio showcasing expertise in healthcare and/or pharmaceutical copywriting, with experience targeting both HCP and patient audiences.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a mastery of AP and AMA styles.
- Knowledge of FDA, OPDP, and other regulatory requirements in healthcare marketing.
- Strong understanding of digital and social media trends in healthcare communication.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
The anticipated salary range for this position will be $150K-$180K. Salary is based on job-related factors such as: years of relevant experience, qualifications and/or certifications. Spectrum reserves the right to modify this pay range at any given time.
