A day in the life of the Lead-Corporate Development is never the same but, in this role, you will act as a Lead Strategist and use your skills, experience and talents to be a part of a team focused on developing 3-5 year time-horizon growth initiatives for the company. This includes setting performance objectives for strategic consulting-like engagements and developing the approach for achieving these objectives. You'll also design the appropriate decision architecture/infrastructure to develop recommendations, secure commitment for decisions, and activate against the decisions with speed and within specified timeframe. In collaboration with internal partners-you'll create the design and adjustment of an activity's objective, decision infrastructure and documentation tools ensuring the activity is integrated with all other management system activities while also delivering the best decisions for SpartanNash.

What You'll Do:

  • Initiative: Expertise in identifying, validating, selecting, and ultimately leading industry/market research projects with outside-in focus (often in partnership with external consultants). Projects will focus primarily on new business model & go-to-market business strategy / execution.
  • Customer Centricity: Analyze external customer & partner needs, market opportunity, and sales motions to inform key decisions and partner internally with Business Units, Finance, Marketing, Merchandising and others to create and deliver end-to-end business plans.
  • Leadership: Drive organizational strategy to create impactful, sustainable growth including strategy implementation. Activate against decisions with speed.
  • Influence: Influence with Directors, GMs/VPs/SVPs to gain support for, and drive alignment and decision-making and implementation of new business innovations/programs, including helping to build and manage the governance structure (internal communication plan, regular governance meetings, identifying the right KPIs, reporting out results of implementation).
  • Scaling: An ability to translate business requirements and opportunities into objectives, business plans, business outcomes.
  • Analyze: Understand, anticipate, and integrate all relevant market dynamics.
  • Stewardship: Create decision infrastructure and documentation/project management tools. Create the approach to achieve and integrate with systems and processes. Create and execute the "story" for executive-level presentations and organization-wide strategic analyses. Create and lead strategy workshops and other critical discovery meetings
  • Consulting: Serves as consultant driving value-added insights for independent customers.

Sound Like You? Here's what you'll need:
  • Bachelor's Degree (Required) Marketing, Strategic Research, Statistics, Psychology, Economics or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred.
  • Five to Seven years' experience with strategic processes and implementation. Five years' experience leading large-scale strategic projects. Three years analytic experience. Project management experience (proficiency) is preferred. Retail grocery experience is preferred. Consulting experience is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Expert presentation skills - the ability to present complex concepts in a simple "story." The ability to develop positive working relationships with both internal and external departments and vendors.
  • The ability to work cross-functionally to achieve results. Business acumen-budget and investment management - experience in developing business/technology roadmaps.
  • Expertise in alignment of strategic plans, investment strategies, corporate strategy.
  • Experience with analytical, quantitative & statistical approaches to derive insights from large, data sets, solving complex, ambiguous business problems.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Ability to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Experience with marketing databases, segmentation, clustering, profiling, and modeling tools as well as web analytics.
  • Analytical problem solving. Project management skills. Attention to detail. Effective and persuasive communication and ability to influence.
