In this role you will be leading a team which is building the large scale big data infrastructure platform for SoFi. You will be directly responsible and managing the team which implements and manages big data platform for SoFi. The team focuses on ingesting and consumption of data at a large scale to support various business needs. As the engineer manager of the big data platform at SoFi, you'll be involved in the entire lifecycle the product, from ideation, through building, deploying and continual improvement and evolution. You'll design functionality, architect systems, squash bugs, refactor ugly code and continually grow as an technologist and a manager. The ideal candidate is technically both forward-thinking and hands-on, has a strong sense of ownership and drive for delivery, and is a good mentor and co-worker. A Manager of Software Engineering is responsible for the sprint planning and team management and leadership throughout the engineering lifecycle, including: gathering and prioritizing requirements, and working closely with other groups to ensure goals are met.
What you’ll do:
Manage a team of Engineers on the big data infrastructure team
Learn the various domains that fall under the purview of the big data infrastructure team
You have and continue to demonstrate command of the technical and operational requirements of your role.
You successfully develop employees and help them grow within the organization.
You resolve employee-related issues professionally--occasionally escalating these issues to the next level of the organization.
You fully comprehend, effectively communicate, and enforce goals and objectives, feedback, measurable, and improvement plans
Monitor and understand the key metrics governing your product area, with an eye toward continuously improving them through ongoing product innovation
Establish and manage product delivery in a timely manner
What you’ll need:
5+ years of Software Engineering Development experience and 2+ years Management experience for a software engineering team
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline or equivalent work experience
Experience in building scalable systems
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
Nice to Haves:
Deep hands-on technical expertise in cloud based distributed software design and development, particularly using AWS services
Experience with big data technologies
