Business Lead, Invest
Who we are
SoFi is a digital personal finance company whose mission is to help its members achieve financial independence to realize their ambitions, whether that’s to buy a house one day, start a family on their own terms or be debt free. We aim to be at the center of our members’ financial lives, and to help every member Get Their Money Right®. By joining SoFi, you’ll become part of a forward-thinking company that is transforming financial services by embracing technology to build innovative loan products, investment tools, and more. One of the fastest growing fintech companies, we’ve grown from 250 employees in 2015 to over 1,500 employees today, and have more than 1 million members. With offices across the US, we offer the excitement of a rapidly growing startup with the stability of a seasoned management team and some of the best talent around. As an employer, we strive to hire employees who are committed to both our company’s mission and our desire to build the best culture in the world. If you are driven, passionate about what you do, and excited about the SoFi mission, we would love to hear from you.
SoFi Invest is the best platform for new and beginner investors to get started. Since its relaunch in early 2019, we have built a best-in-class mobile first investment platform that includes the ability to invest in stocks, ETFs (including SoFi’s innovative ETF suite), cryptocurrencies, and SoFi’s Automated portfolios. The SoFi Invest Business Unit also includes responsibility for SoFi Relay, SoFi’s personal financial management platform, and SoFi Protect, SoFi’s insurance business.
At SoFi, Business Unit Leaders (BULs) and Business Leads (BLs) are the business leaders accountable for the ultimate performance of the business, our version of GMs.
As a Business Lead for SoFi Invest, you will be responsible for managing the execution, performance and strategy of key initiatives and/or specific product lines within the Invest business unit.
In the past, example initiatives have included:
Setting the strategy for expanding SoFi Invest to a broad investment platform encompassing automated (robo-advisor) and active (brokerage) strategies
Creating and launching SoFi ETFs in collaboration with external partners
Evaluating opportunities to improve operational efficiency while continuing to provide great service to our members
Working with Marketing and Product to create and evaluate new incentive structures for sign ups and referrals
Launching SoFi Relay, a digital personal finance solution that combines the best of SoFi’s technological capabilities and expert advisor team to deliver members relevant, insightful, and actionable advice about their finances
Developing the go-to-market plan for SoFi Protect, creating required partnerships, and driving execution
We expect that going forward the Business Lead will be responsible for similarly impactful and challenging initiatives across the Invest product set. Over time, the role may evolve to focus on solely direct management (i.e., a “GM” model) of a particular product line (such as Relay, Crypto, ETFs, or Automated Investing).
What you’ll do:
Set the long-term strategy of SoFi Invest as well as the strategy for particular product lines within the Invest platform, that both help our members Get Their Money Right and drive SoFi Invest/SoFi overall performance objectives
Work with the full cross-functional team (marketing, product, design, engineering, compliance, risk, and operations) for your lines of business & initiatives, to help them execute on the strategic vision
Drive strategic initiatives (including product and business model innovation), working with other SoFi businesses (such as Lending, SoFi Money, or International) and functional leaders to differentiate our platform
Participate in resourcing / budget, marketing strategy, and product roadmap discussions, advocating for your business lines and initiatives
Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and non-financial reporting and deliverables for your business lines, engaging with key stakeholders across all functions. Communicate key insights from reporting to the Invest team, SoFi Executive team and SoFi Board of Directors.
Continuously manage the prioritization of various initiatives with a focused customer outcome and for the benefit of the overall franchise
Ensure appropriate and accurate flow of information across all constituents
What you’ll need:
Full stack “operator”: ability to both create and execute the business strategy; with clear objectives, but limited, ambiguous, or varied direction
Ability to operate cross-functionally, leading and influencing colleagues over whom you have no direct authority, ultimately leading to timely tactical decision making to advance our objectives
Flexible and collaborative approach to problem solving and ideation
Excellent written and oral communicator
Deep curiosity for how complex (financial) systems work, and an ability to internalize and analyze this information quickly
A blend of demonstrated business, marketing, product management, financial management and execution skills
Expertise in the generalist business “toolkit” (i.e., spreadsheets / modeling, presentation creation, narrative writing, oral presentation)
Nice to have:
Experience in consulting, investment banking, or in a similarly demanding role
Experience in consumer financial services, ideally investment / wealth / asset management
Experience in a cold start business or startup environment
Data and analytics technical capabilities (tableau preferred, SQL / R / SPSS would be amazing)
