SoFi Invest is the best platform for new and beginner investors to get started. Since its relaunch in early 2019, we have built a best-in-class mobile first investment platform that includes the ability to invest in stocks, ETFs (including SoFi’s innovative ETF suite), cryptocurrencies, and SoFi’s Automated portfolios. The SoFi Invest Business Unit also includes responsibility for SoFi Relay, SoFi’s personal financial management platform, and SoFi Protect, SoFi’s insurance business.

The role

At SoFi, Business Unit Leaders (BULs) and Business Leads (BLs) are the business leaders accountable for the ultimate performance of the business, our version of GMs. 

As a Business Lead for SoFi Invest, you will be responsible for managing the execution, performance and strategy of key initiatives and/or specific product lines within the Invest business unit.

This role will be focused on creating, building, and running SoFi Invest’s trading and market making function in order to deliver 1) the best possible trading experience to our members and 2) the most financially sustainable trading approach for SoFi. 

What you’ll do:

  • Establish SoFi Invest’s internal market making / trading / internalization function

  • Recruit, evaluate, and hire team of quantitative traders; support other crucial functions (engineering, product management) in hiring trading-related personnel

  • Drive development roadmap for trading functionality: both Member-facing and backend execution services

  • Help drive the development of quantitative trading models

  • Work closely with other crucial functions (compliance, risk, treasury) to ensure we are able to bring new trading functionality to market

  • Develop and manage the budget associated with building marketing making / internalization function

  • Source and manage all required vendors and partnerships required to build and run the new functions

  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and non-financial reporting and deliverables for the trading function, engaging with key stakeholders across all functions. Communicate key insights from reporting to the Invest team, SoFi Executive team and SoFi Board of Directors.

  • Ensure appropriate and accurate flow of information across all constituents

What you’ll need:

  • Full stack “operator”: ability to both create and execute the business strategy; with clear objectives, but limited, ambiguous, or varied direction

  • Background and experience in trading functions, preferably with exposure to fair value pricing models, portfolio risk management modeling, ETF arbitrage, and/or international securities

  • Ability to operate cross-functionally, leading and influencing colleagues over whom you have no direct authority, ultimately leading to timely tactical decision making to advance our objectives

  • Flexible and collaborative approach to problem solving and ideation

  • Excellent written and oral communicator

  • Deep curiosity for how complex (financial) systems work, and an ability to internalize and analyze this information quickly

  • A blend of demonstrated business, product management, financial management and execution skills

  • Expertise in the generalist business “toolkit” (i.e., spreadsheets / modeling, presentation creation, narrative writing, oral presentation)

Nice to have:

  • Experience in consulting, investment banking, or in a similarly demanding role

  • Data, analytics, and modeling technical capabilities (Python, SQL, etc)
