Forensic Scientist 2 (Research Analyst)

SNA International has an immediate opening for a Forensic Scientist 2 within the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory (AFDIL), DNA Operations, Armed Forces Medical Examiner System (AFMES) in Dover, DE.
The Emerging Technology Section (ETS) is responsible for assisting with the development of new technologies to fill gaps in current testing methods, to optimize commercially available testing kits that are fit for use with typical AFDIL samples, and to generate new DNA databases for statistical calculation as needed.
The Research Analyst will assist in several projects within the Emerging Technologies Section (ETS) aimed to improve efficiency for the personnel accounting mission, and will assist in the development, planning, organization and execution of original research and validation projects to advance forensic DNA analysis.
Critical Work Responsibilities include:- Investigation of novel methods for human identification by DNA typing to accommodate a range of sample types (reference, high quality/quantity, and low quality/quantity evidentiary).
- Generation, analysis, interpretation, and organization of large amounts of data with special attention to forensic quality standards.
- Evaluation of bioinformatic tools and workflows in combination with data generated from a variety of enrichment, library preparation, and NGS sequencing methods.
- Recommending and implementing laboratory process changes to impact and improve data quality and/or analysis.
- Preparation and delivery of posters and oral presentations on research projects at seminars, workshops, professional meetings, symposia, etc.
- Preparation, review, and revision of technical reports and manuscripts for publication.
- A Master's degree in forensic science, bioinformatics, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, population biology, statistics, or related field.
- Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of experience will be considered in lieu of a Master's Degree.
- Must meet the FBI Quality Assurance Standards for a DNA Analyst regarding successful completion of college level courses (undergraduate or graduate level) in biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology
- Individuals with Next-Generation Sequencing and degraded DNA analysis experience are encouraged to apply.
- The successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail oriented and able to work well in a team laboratory environment.
Candidates must be US citizens and able to obtain and complete a National Agency Check with Law and Credit Inquiries (NAC-I) background investigation.
