Security Engineer IV

Security Engineering works directly with the development and operations teams ensuring that technical systems and processes manage risk appropriately for Smarsh's business and in compliance with Smarsh policy. Security Engineering is accountable for the design and implementation of key critical security systems as well as the monitoring and implementing security events and alerts of computer systems, infrastructures, and applications. Developing technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks. Analyzing, troubleshooting, and investigating security-related, information system anomalies based on security platform reporting, network traffic, log files, host-based and automated security alerts.

Essential Functions

  • Monitor and implement security events and alerts of systems, infrastructure, and applications.
  • Develop industry leading security protocols.
  • Develop and follow configuration and troubleshooting documentation for security devices and systems.
  • Develop technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
  • Lead security incident response events.
  • Develop operating procedures and protocols.
  • Develop and follow configuration and troubleshooting documentation for security devices and systems.
  • Implement security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
  • Identify and define system security requirements.
  • Engineer security controls.
  • Participate in internal and 3rd party assessments and vulnerability management.
  • Perform security assessments and validation testing on hosts, databases, applications, and APIs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field or a combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years IT/SaaS Operations experience.
  • 5+ years of security experience.
  • Experience in building and maintaining security systems.
  • Hands-on experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc.
  • Experience with network security and networking technologies and with system, security, and network monitoring tools.
  • Proven work experience as a system security engineer or information security engineer.
  • Hands-on experience SEIM tools.
  • Experience with common security tools, such as Burp/ZAP, Nessus, Kali Linux, etc.
  • Experience with DevOps tools, such as GitHub, Docker, and ELK.
  • Experience with Threat Modeling.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in writing script using shell scripts, Ruby or Python.
  • Proven experience collaborating with cross functional teams.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Detailed technical knowledge of database and operating system security.
  • Thorough understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols.
  • Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Knowledge of modern vulnerability threats including intelligence, discovery, mitigation, remediation and root cause.
  • Excellent attention to detail and complex problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work in a cross functional team environment.
  • Good technical writing, documentation and communication skills are required.
  • High energy and passion for leveraging technology advances and industry trends for Smarsh.
