We’re on the hunt to fill a brand-new opportunity within the growing Smarsh Creative Services team. This Content Writer role will support our marketing demand generation, thought leadership and product marketing initiatives. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working closely with content and editorial teams and subject matter experts to create compelling, informative, solution-oriented content and industry thought leadership. Previous experience writing for the financial services industry is preferred.


Essential Functions

  • Develop and draft a range of detailed, informative content including guides, blogs, customer success stories and case studies. Translate industry concepts and trends into engaging copy for specific segments and personas
  • Support communications across all Smarsh marketing channels through the creation of engaging copy for web pages, infographics, email marketing, videos, digital ads, social media and more
  • Understand how to target buyer, influencer and user-based personas to improve conversions and engagement
  • Cross-functional content support as needed by sales, customer success and other departments
  • Digest tools and information produced by the Product Marketing team to better understand our customers and develop content tailored to customers throughout their lifecycle
  • Write content to address gaps in the buyer’s journey across multiple segments and customer profiles
  • Work with content and greater marketing team to brainstorm and ideate concepts for content projects using product knowledge, themes, current messaging and feedback
  • Execute work according to workback timelines and keep projects on track throughout reviews
  • Use KPIs to develop new content ideas to test, support and ultimately strengthen conversion rates
  • Conduct interviews and schedule meetings with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with graphic artists to communicate ideas for visual impact within content
  • Optimize content according to SEO strategy with keywords for better search ranking

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

Work Environment 

This job currently operates remotely. Smarsh is headquartered in Portland, Oregon with additional offices throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, and India.  


This role routinely uses standard office applications in addition to SharePoint, Wrike, and WordPress. 

Position Type 

This is a full-time salary position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. 


Travel is infrequent, and prior approval is required to attend conferences. 


Education and Experience 

  • 5+ years of writing experience required. Experience writing for Financial Services preferred
  • Journalism degree or combination of experience + degree in English, creative writing or related field
  • Ability to craft compelling stories around technical products and services for a range of buyers
  • Strong creative, problem solving and strategic thinking abilities, with the ability to prioritize and juggle shifting priorities
  • Experience with WordPress or similar CMS platforms as well as experience with Microsoft programs including PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint and Teams 
  • Adept user of project management platforms like Wrike
  • Excellent creativity and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong organizational skills
