The Facilities Construction Superintendent is responsible for directly supervising and providing leadership guidance to facility construction activities. This position is accountable for ensuring that all construction activities are executed in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner, and in accordance with, all applicable Company and industry standards and guidelines. Also, this position must actively communicate with team members on all key/major decisions and supervises a team of Construction Foreman and contractors. This position works in close collaboration with engineering, field and EHS staff. A successful candidate must be team oriented, self-motivated and demonstrate with a strong commitment to upholding safety, operational, and environmental policies.

 

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

In addition to the technical roles and responsibilities the Construction Superintendent is also responsible for the following:

 

  • Provides visible safety leadership and works closely with EHS team. Leads quarterly safety meetings and ensures regular and effective safety training is completed for the construction team.
  • Ensure cost effective and efficient construction activities in accordance with company objectives, policies, and procedures
  • Ensures that construction activities are compliant with the appropriate standards, procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Provides project management oversight in the development of existing assets
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings, providing updates and input on construction activities. Provides weekly updates to Facilities Engineering Manager on project status.
  • Makes decisions along with engineering personnel regarding status of projects and field related problems.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
  • Develops good relationships with and effectively manages contractors and suppliers. Confirms that all contractors are properly approved with the SCM group.
  • Handles invoice management
  • Coordinates the selection, purchase and installation of all equipment needed for a project scope
  • Provides input into the budget process and collaborates with Facilities Engineers and Manager to develop budget estimates.
  • Participates in monthly cost tracking and accrual/capital forecast processes
  • Remains current in the application of the latest proven technologies and methods
  • Regular field trips are required and can work extended hours when required.
  • Conducts business with the highest ethical standards.

 


Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills:

  • Detailed knowledge of company policies and procedures, industry practices, construction standards, welding procedures, and OSHA rules and regulations. Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and B31.8 a plus.
  • Strong understanding of facilities and equipment in oil and gas environment – pipelines, tank batteries, compression, wellhead connects, vessels, pumps, etc. Understanding of facility documentation (i.e., PFDs, P&IDs, C&Es, Electrical one-lines) is a plus. Ability to create isometric piping drawings is a plus.
  • Works closely with Facilities Engineers to develop project work scopes for retrofit and new build activities. Actively participates in safe design reviews – Hazard reviews, MOCs, and PSRs.
  • Evaluates and recommends feasibility of existing and new construction projects.
  • Supports Production team by assuring that all construction projects and associated equipment is operating properly.
  • Coordinates and manages supervision coverage for all facilities construction operations.
    • Supervises and ensures technical work is of the highest quality from Construction Foreman
    • Participates in the hiring of staff, performance reviews and personnel development efforts for any direct reports
    • Manages the bid process, selection of contractors, and the use of service provides to ensure cost effectiveness and compliance with policies and procedures.
    • Supervise contractor compliance with JSA and Hazard ID reporting
  • Manage costs for accuracy and market conditions and approve invoices as required
  • Monitors construction activities and ensures that projects are completed in a safe and cost-effective manner, adhering to company policies and government regulations
  • Good written and verbal skills required. Proficient level of skill in Microsoft Office, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Knowledge of AutoCAD a plus.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

 

Education:
High School Degree or equivalent. Associate or Bachelor degree is a plus. A valid driver’s license is required.

 

Typical Experience:

Minimum 10 years of oil and gas experience. Supervisory experience required.
